    HI From England

    Hi everyone
I've just got myself a 1986 GS450L import from America. It's been laid up in a garage for the last 17 years. The previous owner parked it up due to family health issues.
After a quick clean of the carbs an oil and filter change and fresh fuel, the old girl runs.
Now for the rest of the project, I’m going full Hipster/scrambler on it. The reason being is that the cosmetics on the bike are far too gone to economically sort out, and the chopper/cruiser look isn’t my thing. I’ve read previous comments on other people’s posts about the seat hoop being too close to the wheel and have taken them on board. When it comes to fitting the hoop I will be taking it to a professional frame guy and making sure that the hoop will be at least 6” above the tyre.

Welcome and good for you. Those were not the best looking bikes to start with. I doubt you'll hear too many objections to changing it into something you don't have to hide you face if a mate see you on it.

A bike only it's mother could love. But on the other hand it's well built, and I bet it's comfy as hell on a long ride.

It may be ugly, but I'm sure even some simple changes - handlebars for one- will transform it. Make it yours and enjoy.
