Happy to join the GS club! Rode enduro bikes in the 70’s and early 80’s, until my last one was stolen. Flash forward a few decades...my two sons are out of the house, my oldest now has a Yamaha FZ-07. I was looking at buying some new “bobber” bike, then remembered the classic 4-cyl bikes in the late 70’s. I always liked the Kawasaki KZs, but somehow a GS1100 made it through one of my searches. Began doing research, and decided to pursue the GS1100.
Mine is a 1980, chain drive, with the TSCC engine (). Just got it two days ago. The PO was the 2nd owner and had owned it since 1988. Took good care of it. I removed the sissy bar/luggage rack. Pretty soon I may replace the cruiser handle bars with something more sporty but not radical. I ultimately plan on painting the tank and side panels, to spiff her up.
Very happy, until the starter stopped engaging the engine this afternoon at the gas station. With a push-off, I got her home. Anyway, one of the reasons I got it was to have something to tinker on. Guess I got my wish! I am mechanically minded, but have never done serious engine build stuff, and am a total novice related to electrics.
Again, glad to be a part of the club and beginning my GS journey!
