Also have a 1979 GS1000 S that I purchased a few years back for $500. Looks to be all original except for chain guard and exhaust. Not registered since 82 and still has the gas in it from then. Been collecting parts for a while. Got a new right side mirror and should have bought the left before prices went ballistic. Hope to start on it after the 1100 is on the road

Hi all, I have been on and off this site for several years and thought I should finally introduce myself if I am seeking help on anything. I am a 63 year old motorcycle nut from Battle Ground Washington. I got retired a couple years ago after spending 38 years in the wholesale motorcycle industry. Spent the last couple years doing several long adventure trips . Now that I have some of that out of my system I'm trying to get around to some projects. I currently have 11 bikes with my favorite rider being a 2014 KTM 1190 adventure. What brings me to this site is I am the original owner of a 83 gs1100 ESD purchased in March of 83 for $3,194 that I am trying to bring out of moth balls.Always stored indoors. Last ridden in about 1994 but was always one of my favorites and thus a keeper. Started the restoration / hop up couple years ago but got sidetracked by new found riding time. Engine has been gone thru completely, crank rebuilt by Pearson Racing Wiesco 1166 kit , Ape flowed head ,springs, hard weld rockers , Web Cam .Mikuni 36 flatslides . Chassis has all new bearings etc , Race Tech springs and gold valve cartridge emulators , Ohlins shocks . Original thought was to be able to return it to stock condition but I guess I'm way past that point. Down to getting the Dyna wired up and trying to figure out an oil pressure switch to use with the top end oiler.

Welcome, welcome, welcome.
You have lots of bikes, too! I can't imagine walking into my garage and saying to myself, "Gee, which one shall I ride today?" You are blessed, man.
Everything on that 1100 sounds/looks wonderful. I'd keep it the way it is but that's your option to restore it to it's original specs. Enjoy your way around here!

Thanks guys, here's a couple pics of the 1000s . Didn't realize I bought it off Craigslist in 11 / 2009 for $500 until I checked, Time flies . It needs a total restore. Hasn't been registered or on the road since 82. Guy I bought it from was the original owner but he had no idea what he had. Hadn't ridden a MC since 82 . He said most of the dents and scratches came from storage, stuff falling on it , kids bikes etc. Took us about 45 minutes to unload everything from the storage facility just to get to it. Looks to have been stored indoors most of it's life but does have the usual corrosion / rust issues. Took the C/S cover off to see how hard the corrosion was going to be to get off the cases. Should polish up nicely. Been collecting parts whenever I see something reasonable. Have another S gas tank that's really clean inside , windscreen , seat cover. Still can't believe I paid $185 for a NOS right side mirror.Attached Files

That hotrod is a 1958 Morris Minor Pickup . I ran it for years with a Buick 215 c.i. aluminum block V8 , 2 speed power glide trans. Decided it needed a little more power and nice paint so now it has a Ford 289 hi-pro / t-10 4 speed . 58 Olds narrowed rear end and Corvair front suspension / steering. Was (still) hoping my son would help finish it and I would give it to him but he moved to Seattle for work after college.
