"New" GS 550 owner St. Louis
I'm from KC but soon transplanting to STL. Purchased my first bike a 1982 GS 550 L for $700. I actually bought it about 5 years ago as a highschool student. The bike ran fine until the rectifier blew. Replaced that and then I let it sit for the winter and then let it sit until now I pulled it out of the garage and have been wrenching on it bit by bit every day. Hope to have it running as the weather turns warm here.Last edited by Guest; 03-11-2019, 11:34 PM.Tags: None

Welcome and good luck.
There's lots of info here on replacing / Improving the GS charging system. Depending on how long it sat, the carbs may need to be addressed. Even if it does run seemingly well, going thru and replacing the Orings, intake boots, etc can make a big difference in rideability.sigpic
When consulting the magic 8 ball for advice, one must first ask it "will your answers be accurate?"

Good morning and welcome MrStuff,
Sounds like you're eager to get going on your bike. Post pics when you can.
My bike has been sitting a while now...carbs were rebuilt by Steve, and I have fork seals to replace. Plus some other new components to install...like a R/R, 530 chain, throttle cable and various other jobs.
But this is about you...get going! Lol

my opinion shouldn't be taken as gospel or in any way that would lead you to believe otherwise (30Sep2021)
