    It always starts like this..

    HI all. Greetings from Tasmania.

I am a bit excited to finally get my Suzuki GS1000g after a couple of years of trying to get it to crank over. Woo hoo, It didn't fire, But it will. I think. The last owner had an electrical problem in the starter system and pretty much pulled the bike to bits. After getting it to crank yesterday and finding no spark. i swapped out the regulator from an 850G unit with the same part number, and i have spark! Even tested it myself. I'm pretty happy because i normally never do anything electrical if i can help it. But very thankful now to now have a test light and multimeter in my kit. And i got to tell the lady at the shop where i brought it. Hey, I'm multi tasking.

i ordered a set of factory side covers from the local Suzuki dealer (AU$88 each!) Who cares, money to the wind baby. This thing cranks over. And, its a credit to Suzuki for stocking 37 year old parts. I can't think of any other manufacturer that would.

The seat has been recovered, the top end is a wiseco 1075, Clipons added and i may have a set of rear sets to suit it. It still needs a lot of going over. Brakes, masters, suspension and tyres, paint but just these small wins are enough to put a fire in my belly and get this bike on the road again.

Nice to meet you all and i hope you all have an awesome day
    Phillip

Wife and I are spending the day in Philly with a friend from Philly. I'm not driving so I have a chance to browse the GSR.

I always enjoy seeing new members from outside the US. Welcome Philski!

Thanks for the intro and pic. Good luck with all your projects (electrical being the first) to get your bike in proper running order.

          hi all

I could not do another day of the wiring stuff. I've started seeing rainbows. So rust treated and painted the frame and started on the aluminium. Its starting to come up a treat. I tested an Fe rust converter on the aluminium and it seemed to work instantly. Then hit it with cream of tartar paste to polish it. Tomorrow is harness day and general tidy up, then a bit of a touch up on the paint and then compression test and fuel delivery upgrade. I have a set of FBG 34mm Lectron flatslides for something a bit different. I like the factory carbs but at least one needle and seat is stuffed, choke is seized etc, and they have been sitting for years. And to rebuild the lot would be as cheap as buying a used set of FCRs.
