    Hello, New owner Melbourne, Australia

Hello, I am a proud new owner of a GS1000S, this a bike I have loved for ever. I plan to tidy up to concourse standard as I have with my K3 but over time. In the meantime hope to get a few miles under my belt.

      Congrats on the S, Muzza.
Site member Kiwi Canuck is compiling a registry of the GS1000S worldwide. Maybe you could contact him with the frame and engine number.

Congrats & welcome. All we got, over here, were the blue ones. Just makes me like the red ones better. What's yours?

I lived in Essendon for 2 years, my wife's from Coburg. Among other things, with box turns, trams, sudden showers, and the dreaded white van man, it proved to be an interesting place to ride. In my 35 years of riding street bikes, probably over 200K miles, the only time I ever even 'laid it down' was in a 7 way roundabout with a tram line through it, in the rain. It was like Frogger. Luckily I only slid a few feet at low speed (with my KZ750 mashing my boot) and recovered quickly.

And by god I love the GS1000S.

Hello all, Steve, I will reach out to Kiwi Canuck and see if he is compiling. I like Kiwi Canuck are also originally from NZ.

Ed, pic attached....I hope. Its blue too!

I purchased this bike a couple of weeks ago in Christchurch, NZ. The plan was to ride over there next month and planning a month over there in December. I may ship back after that or leave it there for a bit more fun. The issue is now, I have cancelled my flights next month and who knows about December.
So I own lovely machine and i can't even see it.
Look, in the scheme of things these are small problems.

oldGSfan; I feel your pain in riding around Melbourne. I am really a weekend rider and get out of the city when I can. Crazy drivers everywhere around Melbourne We are fortunate with some great riding around country Victoria along with the Great Ocean Road on our doorstep.

            Thanks for the feedback.

            Regards

Let the nit-picking begin. Is that "80" model exhaust on a "79" bike? Can't be sure from picture, but kind'f looks like it.

Hey Muzza welcome along from sunny Brissie! Nice looking S, one of my riding buddies up here has an S also and it's definitely nice to see them being ridden!

Having to cancel the trip sucks but there's a lot of that going on right now. The Katana folk were planning a ride down to meet some NSW fellas at Walcha this coming weekend but that's all been cancelled now, and our annual State of Origin ride to Nambucca Heads in August or September is now looking a bit shaky also.

Are you thinking just to ship the S over here so you can get some kms on her and start the restoration?

Hey Pete, i think that now that I may not get a chance to ride in NZ for some months shipping here might be the go. If I'm stuck at home for a few months it will be a nice distraction.

rphillips, the pipes are currently an aftermarket 4-1. I understand that that a set of originals will be hard to find but I will give this my best shot. The 750-4's they repress original pipes these days but I have not found any clues that this happens with the GS pipes.

I would love the rundown as to how one gets hold of a set of pipes? Are they the same pipe as the standard GS1000? Lack of pipes was not a reason for me to not buy the bike as I love the idea of owning one. The fact it was already in New Zealand was also a factor.

I have a feeling the pipe finding excise will be an interesting journey. As you can see by the questions, I have some research to do on the subject.

                    Cheers

Yes, in "79" the "S" exhaust was the same as all other, "78" thru "80", "E" & standard GS1000 chain drive models. In "80", the "S" exhaust was only 1 yr. & only for the GS1000 "S" model.
