    Hello. New 1981 GS1000g owner

    Hello,
New to the forum and to the gs bikes. Purchased a 1981 GS1000G with 18,500 miles and no title. Looking forward to restoring both.
I will spend a few days exploring posts and links before I ask any questions.20201122_205347.jpg
First steps will be cleaning fuel tank and repairing starter clutch.

    my other bike is a 1981 CX500D

    Cheers,
    Jim

Welcome. I’d say your first order of business would be making sure you can get a title and legally register the bike with your DMV. Otherwise, it’s a nice parts bike.

        Welcome to theGSR.

        Is that front fender chrome?

        Running?
How well does it run with the pods (instead of stock air box)?

Do look into requirements in your state for no-title bike.

            Nice-looking mostly stock bike.

I agree with the concept of getting a title before putting ANY money into restoration. Don't go by what your brother's friend's uncle's girlfriend thinks, check with the DMV office yourself.

state of washington has a way to register and use a bike with no title. applying for ownership in doubt. after 3 years a title is issued.

Working with the dmv. verified not stolen or wrecked. just paperwork, money and time will get me the title. more concerned about locating a starter clutch.

Hello. yes front fender is chrome. It reportedly has not run in close to 10 years. working on the starter clutch then will rebuild carbs. I put about 10ml of marvel mystery oil down each spark plug hole and turned engine over by hand. seems ok so far. I have the stator cover off in photos on an album on my profile. clean inside. wishful thinking now. high hopes for now.

I would advise you to source a stock airbox and ditch the pods. There's a reason the engineers did things the way they did. It's a great bike and will last a long time if taken care of.
