    New member with a 1980 GS750E & 1982 GS1100E

    I am new to this site, came recommended to me by a friend that restores bikes. I am having trouble with Carb#1 on the GS1100 leaking gasoline out the back. Bought the bike last month, have not really been ridden it yet. The GS 750E is finally in good running order, having rebuilt and replaced all the parts in all 3 calipers. The GS1100 has pod air filters, so the gasoline leaks out the back. I need advice on which way to go. Rebuild them and replace all the gaskets or replace the entire carb set-up. My friend said to come here for help. So, here I am. I also ride a 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS, and own two Honda CB1100's, a 2013 and a 2017. Need less to say, I like inline fours.
    Will post pixs here when I learn how.
    Will submit request for help to the proper forum when I find it. Sorry for placing it here, but it is the current details about both of my GS's. Michael

    I also have an 11EZ with pods and spot-on jetting, runs like a dream.
    1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

    2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

      If only #1 carb is problem, I'd check needle & seat & "O" ring on seat for carb #1. If you mean carb 1 is leaking while bike is sitting in garage & not running, the pet cock also needs cleaning or rebuilding. Welcome & good luck. Also congrats on the Z900RS, I haven't ridden one but I think I want one.

        Having read the Top Ten Newbie mistakes, I am going to replace the pet cock with an OEM one, and clean the carbs, replace all the O rings. Do the items mentioned before I ask repetitive questions this Forum has probably seen too many times. So it may be awhile before I get back here. I really want the bike to run like she looks. Thanks rphillips for the welcome, and yes the Z900RS is a blast to ride. Mine has got the full Akrapovic exhaust system and a K&N air filter. Soon to install a Booster Plug to quiet things out. She is one fast 900. Way faster than 900s used to be. But I will be back when all the basics are done. Michael

            Hi, would you mind sharing your jetting specs with me. I need a place to start, still working on gathering all the parts, etc.. I need to clean and repair if needed, the carbs. Thanks, Michael

              I couldn't pry the info from my mechanic. I insisted that I would only share the info with Midwesterners after he reminded me that I paid dearly for that work. "Besides," he said, "all bikes are different. Your jet sizes might not work in another bike."

                If the 1100s been sitting for a while it wouldn't hurt to clean and new carb kits. It could be a sticking float needle on that one which is a sign the other three are ready to follow.
