    Newbie here. Hello. '79 GS1000

Hey, new guy to the forums, new to bikes in general as well. Started restoring my dads old TS250 and ended up getting offered a good deal on a GS1000, I couldnt refuse.

So now I'm fixing up two bikes.

Ive got some work ahead of me on this GS, it last ran about 3 years ago, and it hasnt ran since then because it was "gently crashed". The bike was professionally set up with a full fairing and baggage set, but it was the fairing falling off onto the front tire that caused the crash. So I'm planning on just putting regular headlight and signals on it and taking all the baggage off. Got some repair work in the points area as well, that appears to be the worst of the damage. Lots of loose wires with the fairing having fallen off, and the battery is bad, and when hooked up to a car battery with jumper cables, the dash lights all work, but when i try to crank it over it just barely tries for a second before it acts like the battery is completely dead and all the lights fade out.

So yea, as yall can tell, i got some work ahead, but I'm very excited for the process and the day i finally get it to start.

Welcome aboard! You've come to the right place. You may want to put your exact model and year in your signature.

And certainly get as many different shop manuals as you can. The official Suzuki one is available at this site.
1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

Thanks for the welcome. Heres my first newb question, i tried the search bar for "VIN" but its not giving me anything. Is there a lookup for these old VINs? I didnt have issues looking up my TS250 VIN info but the internet isnt being helpful with the GS vin.

Looks like you have your work cut out for yourself. The GS1000 has good bones so that much is good of course.

Be sure to search out basscliff's website for tons of info.

          Good luck
