    Different, ain't it

At first sight, I thought GS850T, though there were no 850T's... I've always thought the GS1000G was a GS850 bike with a 1000 eng. installed Now he has a GS850 bike with a 1000 eng, installed, is it now a GS1000G or still a GS850? Also were there other differences in the 850G and 1000G, other than eng.?

The 1980 GS850 was the 850GT, is that what you're thinking of. Iirc, the 81 was the GX.
Whatever, the replacement of the original lump doesn't change the details the bike was registered with - it's still a GS850 on the title / logbook / reg doc.
However, all the factory did was put the 1000G lump in an 850 frame, so it's as good as.
Rather annoyingly, there's no upgrade path from the basic 850 engine to a 1000, it needs the complete engine (same as the 1100 route).

It's this months BOTM. He put an "L" rear fender on a 850G and, tome, made it resemble a GS750 "T" or GS550 "T", though the GS850 didn't come in a "T" model...Not to be confused with a 1980 yr. model that was designated by a "T"

I LIKE IT! I like it so much I think I'd want to somehow refresh the tank's paint somehow just the way it is.
