My "New" GS1100GL
I had always wanted a mototcycle since I rode my Moped when I was 13. Finances and marriages never let me get one. Now I'm 55 years old and divorced. I started looking at the droves of newer used bikes at dealers costing from $4,000 to $5,000. They looked good but something was missing. An acquaintance told me of a bike for sale by the widow of an owner of a 1983 GS1100GL. He said that the estate wanted $900.00 for the bike. I made an appointment to look at the bike. I didn't expect much for $900.00. She opened the garage and I took one look and fell in love. I knew I had to have that bike! It was dusty and hadn't been started in months. After playing with new gas and cleaning plugs, she fired up. I offered her $700.00. She said she would take $740.00. I handed over the cash and I let a friend drive her home for me. It wasn't running really great (dirty gas and carbs). We spent a day cleaning the carbs and now she runs like a new one. I have done some cleaning and polishing and it really looks great. I am happier with this bike than I ever would have been with one of the new V-twin HD look-alikes. My friend that helped me clean her up has a HD Heritage Soft Tail. We were coming up a hill not far from home and he opened the Harley up. I followed suit and passed him like he was stopped! The old gal still has muscle! I didn't have to spend an arm and a leg to get a bike that I'm proud of.Tags: None
