I just purchased a clean 1982 GS1100E, and while this bike has been sitting for 4 years, I must say with some TLC this will be a sweet bike for me. I have been wanting an early 80's "superbike" style platform for a while, but they are very hard to find, especially original, and "unbeat". Mine is just that. With the exception of a Corbin seat, my GS is all original. The engine will need a good cleaning and polish to look good, but really thats it. I need new side panels, as the mount tabs are all snapped off (no surprise, I have seen this a million times before). The trick is to spray a bit of silicone spray on the rubber plugs to keep them lubricated, so the side panel posts dont snap when trying to remove the panels. As far as my first driving impression..... the carbs need a CLEANING! The #1 carb pilot circut is plugged, so it idles rough. low speed driving it's a dog, once up in the midrange this engine pulls VERY imprssive for a 23 year old bike. (my last street bike was a 1990 Kawasaki ZX-10). I have a "wavey" front rotor that I have to investigate, as I have some front brake lever pulsing. More than enough power to keep me smiling. I'm thinking a few "street night" passes at my local drag strip?! This is an awesome site for GS knowledge ! Thanks,
Rich
