Thanks, that was the reason I went with the silver powder coat. Now I'm trying to decide what to do with the wheels. Powder coat or spray paint, matching silver or a color like a vivid blue or red. Decissions, decissions and the weather is perfect for riding now. Great timing Ray.

I think silver, like the Katana wheels would look great.
A darker color charcoal gray with a lot of fine metallic flake (like some of the late model car wheels) would also look sharp. That way you could have a bit of a contrast without going to black. My $.02

Thanks Duke, my project is pale in comparison to that red beauty of yours. Nevertheless, I'll continue on. Ray

ghost our projects are totally different mine is mosty a newer model suspension upgrade with a few motor mods. yours is an upgrade involving restoring a classic back to its original form. both mods are about keeping these wonderful old bikes on the road. i would love to have both and when i finish this one (if i ever do) i would like to start another and go the route that you are going. your bike is as clean as any that ive seen. your hard work and dedication has gotten you a beautiful machine. keep up the good work buddy !!!!!!!

                They look good to me.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Nice. Love those tires, just wish I could get more than 2k miles out of them.

Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll get a few more than that, I'm a slow old rider. Ask Debby, she'll vouch for me. Ray

Being vision challenged can be rally bad.

Well, I wish I had put my glasses on. Such is the life of the blind motorcycle mechanic. The tap I picked up , to chase the brake mounting bolts, was a 9mm not 8mm. Now try my abilities with the helicoil, I think I'll use the glasses this time.

The wheels look nice, I forgot you can get them powder coated in other colors besides black, so that's neat to restore the 'silver' color of the original wheel.

I want a Lasertec tire (at least in the front) on my new 1100...I'm just having a hard time justifying throwing away the Spitfire with only 200 miles on it...

                            Ghost,

                            Your bike looks great!!
I can't quite make it out, but is that some kind of cover for your oil cooler? I was thinking of making some kind of cover for my cooler for the cold days. Did you make that?

Hey Adam, Thanks for the compliment. I didn't end up powder coating them, only Duplicolor clear coat over walnut shell blasted alluminum.

Bruce, The "cover" is a small sheet of alluminum which I hand formed to the curved shape of the cooler ends. It is held in place with small tie wraps. Cheap, simple, effective and it doesn't look horrible. IMHO.

Thank God for heli coils. Ray
