    Deciding I don't need anything else!

    Well, the sun is down and it's still about 42 degrees here in igloo land, and I have a big grin on!

    Got out for about a 30 mile run with my brother. It was really good going. I tried out his 86 VFR 750F Interceptor. What a strong bike. He just got it rejetted and a K&N filter on it with a supertrapp exhaust. It is running really well. Almost a little too well for me, I am not used to the power and it is a little scary when your not used to it. He has about double the rear wheel horsepower I have, so it is quite a difference.

    Getting back on mine and riding home was a treat though. I know the feel of the bike so well that it just seems to flow along. I am so used to mine that I am not sure I really want anything more powerful, I am very content with the 750L now that the handlebars and rear shocks are on. I think when I finish my little projects up and put the Dyna Ignition and coils on and redesign the seat I will be very happy. So it looks like I might just be driving the old gal for the long haul!

    The 79 750's are a fine ride. I really enjoyed mine.

      Don't ever rate your ride against a different bike. When I had my 750 I had the opportunity to ride a Hayabusa. The 'busa scared me with it's ease of power. Not to mention the owner mentioned to make sure not to pull a wheelie. I had the same experience on a '00 Honda 929. More bike than I was ready for. Now I have an old 1100. I'm very close to reaching my comfort level (cornering) with it. Ride your own ride. When you're ready to step up, take it easy until you can make the bike your own! All bikes handle differently!

        I'm with you in feeling comfortable with the bike you own. My 81 GS1000G is heavier and less powerful than most of the bikes I ride with, but it never has to apologise to them.

        The only place most people get away from me is by speeding on the open road - and I'm not interested in walking home after an unexpected radar check.

        Through the corners I find that most people have an inner limit in their own head, my limit is a bit further out than some of my mates on very fancy bikes. I sat on the tail of an R1 up a mountain pass one time and wondered why the guy had a bike like that when he rode like it was an old BMW R60 or something. It's all in the mind, that is for sure.

        It would cost me six months wages to get onto a modern bike, by keeping the old GS I get to eat all year round. :-)

          I agree. I love my old 850, a friend of mine has one of those 6 cyl Honda mega bikes, the only advantage I can see in it is that it's newer and more comfy, but it weighs so much more than mine, I'll stick with mine, make changes, upgrades and stuff, I'll be fine...........:-D
          BTW, riding today, pushing 50, rode yesterday, high temp was 43, summer's on its way!!!!:-D :-D

            My 750 is growing on me....

            Ugly Ebay junker '78 GS 750. I got it just to have something to ride, untill I can afford something nice and newer, probably a V-Strom. At first just spending the minimum amount to get it safe to ride, new chain, tires, oil change, etc. Planning on selling it for what I have in it when I go to Scotland next month. Now after riding it 3,000 miles over the last few months it has gotten to where I really like the bike, lately I have decided to up the ante a notch, make it into a keeper. So more money on nice shocks, fork springs, 850 top end, Pod filters, lots of little parts to get it in really nice shape. Looking for a decent 4-1 pipe now. Probably no longer can sell it for what I have into it but on the other hand I'm in no hurry to blow big bucks on the Strom.

              As I have said before my '78 1000 is FUGLY! But she is mine and I dont have ANY monthly payments to make on her. She has always kept up with anything else unless the other RIDER had a much faster comfort level that I do.

              Do I want a NEW bike? YES! Will I go out and BUY a new bike? HELL NO! Will my '78 ever be for sale? Well I guess in my estate sale...........
              Unless I can find a way to have it burried with me! lol just kidding folks!

              I went onto the oldbikebarn.com site and looked up everything I want/need for my bike. All totalled it was UNDER $900 usd delivered to my door. that doesnt include paint, but still a LOT cheeper than buying a NEW bike!
