He was knowledgeable enough to know that the local dealerships couldn't do much to get his bike roadworthy. So, I suggested a shop that seems to do work on mainly older bikes. It's amazing what an old GS can bring out in some people. :-D

A few months back I was at the post office and when I came out there was a KZ700 in the parking lot. That was the first one I had ever seen in the flesh. The owner and I talked for awhile about his bike. It was in great shape. He said he had gotten it off of Ebay.

I've had a lot of people come up to me on the 1100 and say that it was their dream bike when they were younger. That's cool but the best part has been meeting the guys like Billy, Dan, Don, Tim, Leon, JT, Michael, Rick, Ron, Ryan, Renda, Mark, and many, many others because of my association with the bike and this website.

      You guys are too cool!

It's not until you meet people in the flesh that you get a true appreciation for who they are. You have a great family Hap and have every reason to be proud.

I have HD guys come up to me all the time and comment on how much "I" dont look like a poser.......... Rideing an OLD bike and STILL loveing the ride!
I have been on so many charity rides that i was the only 4cyl. bike.

Like they say it not what you ride but THAT you ride. Even better when its on a GS!!!!!!!

Indeed riding a "older" GS draws looks..
Had my share of thumbs up and positive comments riding the '79

Best time i had was parking it at a "open house" day at Safe Motors Rotterdam last year. Straight across 3 higly polished, metal flaked, chrome plate, turbo'd Busa's, and drawing a bigger (and nicer) crowd :-D

My GS has gotten more looks than either my (97) Triumph Daytona or my (91)Ducati 907. It has drawn crowds at the famous Rock Store in CA and kept up with many a modern bike in the twisties. Probably why I can't bare to part with it. The GS will be furniture before I let it go!

Something about that whole retro-chich thing. Lets face it, chrysler's making millions on the retro idea with all the new models. Its nice that we get some of that attention too.

I rolled up to Hooters to meet up with some friends for dinner and when I took my helmet off this guy "literally" ran over to me. I thought something was on fire or something but he couldn't help but notice my bike and comment on the fact that they don't build bullet proof bikes like they used to. Made me smile :-)

So, was that on the new Bandit or the antique?

It still surprises me that my 82 GK draws so much attention. But like Hap said, the best part is meeting some really cool people that will come out in the middle of nowhere (thats in central Texas) after dark & rescue you should you "stop" for some reason. Is it fall yet?

I like that my bike really confuses kids on sportbikes.
They are honestly dumbfounded. Last week these two kids on GSXR's almost plowed into a car because they were looking back at me.
