I just thought I'd let you know that I went on my very first poker run today in Southern Illinois. I went and polished up the 550 because I knew that I'd be riding with a bunch of chrome Harleys. I was invited by a guy I see at a local bar all the time. He rides a 2004 FatBoy, but couldn't get over telling me all the stories he had with his first bike which was a 1981 GS 550L like mine. I was a little skeptical about going at first because I couldn't get any of my friends with old Jap imports to come with me. They all had to work or were going home from college for the weekend.
Anyway, i went solo and met John from the bar at the starting point. Nothing but Harleys and one sport bike. Although, one old guy had some really old Russian made bike there with a side car on it. I parked next to him and we both got a lot of complements, which was surprising. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. the ride benefited our local Child Advocacy Center, for abused children. It was about 100 miles round trip with stops at the local vineyards down here.
I just wanted to share the experience and let you know that I had a blast! So don't be reluctant to ride with those Harley dudes, at least not here, they turned out to be alright and gave the little 550 Zuki a lot of complements.
