    Bike Night On Beale St.

Against my better judgment and the advice of 8track off I went to the weekly bikes, bars, and babes event. The evening started off with a strange sound, I downshifted and thought my exhaust had devleloped a problem..... Never sounded like that before. Turned out it was the Arlen Ness wannabe* on the cookie cutter "custom" (just like everyone elses) chopper behind me. He didn't stay back there very long as there was a straight part of road and he needed me to hear his pipes...... I did learn that a hardtail chopper won't hook up for crap though. My little EX will however hook well enough to lift the front wheel..... And isn't any slower then a full custom v-twin.

So I get to the event after laughing at wannabe racing all the 'Busa's down Union Ave, and find a parking spot between two hogs. Seems the sportbikes were all on the other side and no empty spots. I felt better when I saw the teal green Vespa parked next to the GPZ900....... To each their own I guess......

Overall not a bad deal, but the sportbike guys seemed more laidback and friendly then the cruiser types. There was at least one Cavelcade present and almost as many 'Busas as Harleys. The guy on the Kawi Dual Sport had my vote though. There was also a guy on a super clean early '70's Triumph. He left early with the Indian rider. Made a cool pair. Not my kind of event, but looking at some of the bikes made up for some of it.

If you like bikes, attitudes, and drinkin I highly recommend it! Also some of the shall we say less then fully clothed spectators/riders/passengers we fun to watch as well. Only saw one female sportbiker (they had his and her Hondas) though. There were several female cruisers which is great the sport is going that direction. I would much rather ride with someone that way then have a pillion.

All in all a very interesting trip..... I don't think I'll be a regular though.

Wednesday is super drunken biker night here.
Any other night is just regular drunken biker night.

I was in Memphis last week against my will. My car broke down there and we spent 4 days arguing with the dealership to fix it under warranty.

Almost every other bike that I saw there was a 'Busa. I don't know what it is about that town but I probably saw 20 Busa's in my 4 days there....

It's the ride of choice for drug dealers here.

Since you don't drink, don't fight, don't deal drugs and don't have either a Hog or a 'Busa. I was kinda' wondering what you were going to do down there...:-P

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

That was it. I had an ok time, even if I felt a bit out of place. If I get the triple running and have a chance to go again it will be a bit better. Three cylinders are louder then two right??

With as many drive-by shootings, robberys and murders as we have in Memphis, downtown is not the place to be after dark. :-|

Downtown, no. Beale St on bike night with at least 20 cops on foot patrol in less then three blocks yes. I was in more danger from a HOG falling on me then any kind of shooting. Funny most of the MPD out there were BICYCLE cops.
