Well depends on the use as to how many miles I get out of my chains. When I put it on fresh in the spring and was riding paved roads only, I got a good 8500-9000 out of it (DID and RK chains). In the winter they last only 6000 or so with all the salt an crap put down on the road. Now I am riding a lot of dirt roads and this chain sat for over 8 months while I wasn't around to ride. I expect to get about 6-7000 out of the new chain with all the dirt roads I ride. Sure I would look toward 10k maybe if I rode only in nice weather, paved roads and used oring or x ring chain, but I tried an oring chain one time and ther salt from the roads that winter seemed to eat it up, so I am back to the standard unsealed chain and a lot of chain wax.

Herb, you still have your 450 around? Don't see it in you sig, so just wondered.

Chains rule but only until you get shafted.

The best chain I have had experience with was a DID Xring chain that went about 27k on a smaller bike.

hmmm, I was under the impression that chain wax was intended more for O-ring or X-ring chains. I would think you need a proper lube on a regular chain.

Nope, Chain wax works just as well on standard chains too. You still have to follow procedure and make sure that the chain is pretty warm so that the wax melts into it, but just like any Oring or Xring chain, it keeps it quiter and cleaner then any standard lube I have ever used.

Yeah, you gotta like a lube that makes the equipment last longer and keeps the ol' girl quiet while you're ridin' her hard.

I have never tried dumping the clutch and lighting the back tire up on my shaftie though.but i would not be afraid to do it on a chain drive bike
