Just for the record the cop clocked Jethro and me at 57 in a 50. That is what the cop said when Leo was making his pitch trying to get out of the ticket.

Truth be told Leo really went into this ride cautious about exceeding the speed limit. Before we left he discussed our highway cruising speed which we kept withing 5 or 10 mph over.

On a different note:
You guys turned around because sections of the Lincoln Gap are aren't paved? The Lincoln Gap, like the Mt. Washington autoroad, is paved in the steep sections, the unpaved sections are in the flat or flatter sections. The scenery near the top is as good as or better than on Rt 17. I just can't think of a good reason to have passed up the challanges presented by the Lincoln Gap.
20% of Vermont roads are unpaved. If you're passing up roads because their hard pack instead of asphalt you're missing some of the best Vermont has to offer.

I remember going through Lincoln Gap from the East, this time we came from the West. I remember having some unpaved sections, but Joel was on his brand new Kat, and had less than 100 miles on it since he got it. Leo was on his 650 that he picked up two days prior, and also has less than a year riding experience. I just didn't want to make things difficult for them. However, had we continued on, we probably wouldn't have gone through 17 and hit the speed trap. Oh well.
Last time I was on Lincoln Gap my buddy dumped pretty good on his ZRX (on pavement) I just didn't want to be leading a group through the dirt and have that happen.Currently bikeless
