Glad you're ok, and the lessons learned weren't dire. Years ago my starter failed a couple of hours into a three day trip. Bump starts all weekend. Paid close attention to parking. Hills / slopes were a plus. If did have to push, it was get the bike moving, hop on, then dump the clutch.

My dad taught me how to bump start my first dirt bike by getting a push or coasting down a hill, clutch disengaged. Put it in 2nd gear. Plop down hard on the seat as you dump the clutch. The downforce of the plop “bump” gives the rear tire more traction to turn the engine.Rich

For the future though:
Be careful in stores that have magnetic detectors at the exits......those horseshoes may get you in trouble
