Yesterday afternoon, I went out to my bike to do some cleaning, change the oil and clean the trunk a bit.
I couldn't see my bike! I was starting to freak out. When I get home from work, I always lock it and put it up on sidestand AND centerstand.
Now it wasn't in it's spot. I thought it was stolen.
Then I got there and I saw it was on the ground.
Someone had either shoved it over onto it's left side or it got backed into and they took off.
I hate humanity about now.
Gas leaked from the cap for how long, leaving thinned out tear streaks on the beautiful tank. Hard to see, but clearly visible when you get close.
I have sturdy engine guards. Now I have scuffs on it on the left to match the scuffs on the right, which is how I got it.
The worst damage besides the tank is my left rear turn signal. The stalk is remarkably strong on a 1981 GS650GT. Everything is intact, except the cover is almost all gone. Just some orange that is screwed in along with scuff marks.
The Windjammer II fairing is now cracked on the left side to match the right now. The right side was damaged when I got it.
It's still a useable fairing. If it deteriorates, I have the original headlamp and front signals from my purchase.
Anyone know where I can get a replacement orange cover for a left rear turn signal for a 1981 GS650GT? It's not round, it's the rectangular style.
Curiously, I noticed that there is a plastic diffussion plate between the bulb and the orange cover.
Oh and to make me feel worse.
I found a site with stats on my model bike.
16 liter gas tank = 4.2 gallons
Mileage = 48 mpg
Which is a range of about 201.6 miles.
Mine = 104 miles to empty on main.
It's not leaking, it's not smoking. It had new gaskets, tank cleaning, line cleaning, fresh oil change, filter replacement, regular gas, etc. put in after I bought it.
So why am I only going 100 miles before having to look for a gas station?
Blah.
