    srsupertrap's 1979 GS1000E 45 Yrs

Pics of my 1979 GS1000EN beginning in Sept 1979 to Sept 2024.I purchased my GS from Frank Iacona of National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) fame for $3k in Sept 1979 with 6 miles. I found the ad in the NJ Want Ad Press which is what you did back then. I paid too much!

Sept 1979 sporting a wobbly Shoei FM2 fairing, Martex 440 ignition, 3 drilled discs, Priority lights (Haha) and big crashbars.

Mar 1984 inspired by Motorcyclist Joe Minton's Project GS1000 article. From Joe Minton, we resurrect a rotting GS1000 after it was parked because of a burned out R&R. Nippon Denso separate R&R 100% failure rate.

Mar 1985 with Camaro IROC Z blue paint job. My OEM black paint on the top of the gas tank was crap! Speckled and motley I had no choice but to repaint. As you know stripping the OEM paint was a bear!! I stripped and prepped and a new shop owner painted with Dupont Imron blue for $200.

Fourth photo from last Saturday 9/21/2024 after replacing all the gaskets from the engine cases up. GS1000E Sept24.jpg
Everything is not perfect, to fit the Morris 18" rear wheel I had to remove metal from the inboard side of the brake stay tube to prevent tire contact. I don't recall that being mentioned 45 years and 45K miles later.

Thanks again to the GS Resource Forum website for all the help and advice. Hopefully I helped on occasion too.

Looking great and I love the history. I totally forgot about the Want Ad Press... and The Auto Shopper. You bought it in New Jersey?

Yes, I went to Frank Iacona's race shop in Totowa, NJ which was full of race motors & drag cars. Frank Iacona told me he won the Suzuki as the grand prize @ Englishtown Summer National which Suzuki sponsored. Suzuki was pushing V&H Pro Stock wins with the GS1000 back then.

We made a deal and I picked up my GS1000E from Middlesex Suzuki. I could have swear Frank was the reigning NHRA Pro Stock champion at the time but I am wrong.

That's some cool history. Sadly drag racing was ended at E Town a few years ago.
