I broke my own rule today.

I took my 450 Rebel to the DMV to get new tags, 2 months expired. Being over 100 degrees out I broke my own rule of all the gear all the time and settled for leaving the over pants behind.
As I passed the sign telling time and temp. which is quite accurate, it read 104. I had to ride with the visor down on my full face helmet, if I left it up my eye balls wanted to shrivle up.
After DMV I rode into Portland Or. to look at a 1980 Gs 550 LT, 26,000 miles and a bit rough. It has been down a couple times and needs a few parts, side pannels, mirrors, clutch and break handles etc.
It turns over, tank is fairly clean and straight. The dud wants $350, not sure what I will offer.

2001 KLR650 too pretty to get dirty

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

      Preach!

Especially here lately, with all the rain that Oklahoma has had the last month (we had hit like, over 20 straight days of rain!), now that it's starting to heat up to our normal summer temps, the humidity is INSANE.

        What does ATTGATT stand for?

I always wear protective gear, but seem to have missed out on hearing about this pledge.

Look at it this way. You can pretend you took a trip to Florida in the summer, and it didn't cost you anything.
Believe in truth. To abandon fact is to abandon freedom.

I'm not hardcore ATGATT but I wore my leathers for a 200mi trip yesterday. It was HOT, but once you get up to speed it's not bad. Stopping is pretty much instant death, though. ;-) Anyway, I was pretty proud of being so darn safe and had to share. ;-)

My general rule is around town a helmet and good shoes are enough but for long distance/high speed I don the leathers no matter what.

                My gear all the time:
                Helmet
                Cortech GX-Sport jacket with armour
                Boots
                Gloves

On the highway more that 30 minutes, add chaps. (Untill I can get pants.)

My gear all the time, Airie boots, First Gear over pants, fully padded, American Tourer jacket, fully armoured, American tourer race gauntlets, Shoie full face helmet.
At 104 deg., spending many min. at stop lights, the risk of not wearing the over pants as apposed to heat exhaustion was a choice that I made.
I have ridden many thousands of miles in 100 plus temps with full gear, but then I wasn't stopping every hundred yards either.
As poor as the choice was, it was better than 90% of the riders I saw that day.

Concrete and asphalt are unforgiving. I even wear gloves in the heat.

Me too. You can't stop your hands from going out in a fall. Better off leaving them mummified.

Currently 80-90 degrees with Wisconsin humidity. In town, it's Vanson all-perf leather jacket, Alpinestar vented sport boots (SMX-something), vented gloves with carbonish knuckles, Shoei full-face helmet. Out of town, it's all that, plus First Gear Mesh-tex pants.

But I know I'll sacrifice my legs if I go down in town - just don't want to change pants when I get to the office.
