alberta to baja on a new gs750 (1977)

On the dredge ship ,Beaver McKenzie,we were sucking up the floor of the beaufort sea to build artifical islands for oil exploration.
I was 21.Elvis was about to leave the building.John Diefenbaker just left.
I worried i might not enjoy the year being stuck up in the arctic till sept..
Cycle World just named the GS750 Bike of the Year.

    What to do.

My shift started May 1st,and the schedule was 8 hrs on,8 hours off till we were done sometime in sept. before the pack ice came back to push us out for the season.
Sometime in june i lost track of my marbles,I didnt need them anyway.
Just do whats in front of you.. rest, eat, work, read and order motorcycle...and lester mags..later a sharp looking Pacifico fairing (turned out less than a good fairing)(but it would hold a dozen beer).

Sept 26..Back in Red Deer AB

Fall is here and I have a new Unridden bike, bitter sweet.

I found a few of my marbles and realized that there is a road to year round driving. If I leave now..

Dad pleaded with me to take a car.(fyi its useless to argue with your kids if they,ve only got enough marbles to hold onto one thought.God pointed this out 2 months ago when my son bought a crotch rocket.)

    South on my Michelins.

2hrs into it and got lost in calgary.

Bought every map there was and continued Souuth.....

3 inches of snow in the Logans Pass. The bike can touch the ground and I kept going,(about 20 or 30 min till i was clear again)

Great Falls very beautiful in autumn.Stayed the night.

I kept finding more and more marbles ,and my head was getting clearer.
So some attention to breaking in was allowed,Changed oil and inspection at the local dealership.
Crossing the bridges ,goodbye ,to Great Falls and my trip began.

Just reading what I wrote,I realize Im no writer,So Ill cut it short,I went through the grand canyon,Vegas,(almost found a girl there .((yikes it was Lola)))
My Michelins were almost unpeeled after Death Valley, and gone by San Dieago.(I clued in when i glanced at my mirror during a down shift..)

A book could be written about the campground in Cardiff by the Sea.
Hi toStacey andTracey Anaspach and the rest, hope your not ghosts yet.We were so busy.I bought a surfboard and carried it on my bike.(must have lost a few more in the campsite)

    The Mexican side.
Thanks to the turtle fisherman who rescued me at Scammons Lagoon, put me up for the night, fed me fresh turtles and tortillias refried beans ,beer..
took me to Guerreo Negro for repairs, rear axel bearing/ flat tire..
To a brothel somewhere in the middle of the desert, where we drank (on me from gratitude) till the next day.

The Chief Of Police From Guerro Negro to Roselita:Stopped me,told me to stand at the trunk of his car(in broken english) Popped the trunk, reached in and grabbed a couple of beer for us while we whiled away the time.
It was the nature of mexico.

After Christmas I was tired of the brown and greenish brown landscape and started home.
To San Diago where William the german gave me hisOlds wagon earlier when he had to rush back to germany..
put my bike in the back and got stopped at the canadian border, cant bring a used car into Canada.
To a campground in Bellingham, put bike together went to do some laundry, and met a hippie couple in a 42 international truck. The Girl was about 11 months pregnant.
I asked them if they were interested in this 5 year old wagon, they said they couldnt afford it.But the terms are easy, just send what you figure its worth to this guy in germany when you can..

William wrote me saying some one was sending him money from Oregon.

Any way thanks to all for your Website and help,if i can be of assistance ,i will.A special thanks to Matt (seventyonehemicuda) who hooked me up and even writes most of my letters and issues with my 850.

Great Story. I got a lot of my own like it. You made me remember them. The the highest and best use of a motorcycle is to carry its rider through a road story.

    question: Where ya' headed?

answer: Oh, I dunno. Wherever I end up I guess.
Believe in truth. To abandon fact is to abandon freedom.
