The ones they show that depict what liver or lung disease looks like. They show them in an attempt to familiarize you with the perils that go hand in hand with some of life's more fun pursuits (in my humble opinion).

Well, I am thinking about printing this out, and the next time someone remarks on how nice my bike is, and how they would like to own a classic, I am going to show them this:



Because they had better get used to it.

Sure, they are fun to ride, and great looking, and all sorts of other things. They also require a lot of attention, at least until you have gone 'round the world' and replaced/rebuilt everything. Then they are bulletproof (I hope).

Now don't get me wrong, I love problem solving and working on my bike. The sense of accomplishment and true ownership you get from tearing down and rebuilding (and repeating) your bike is great.

And the nice thing is, I can get it to this stage of undress in well under five minutes (which is much better than I have been able to accomplish with any degree of regularity with the opposite sex, even with their most accommodating members).

There is always another problem. To it's credit, it has never left me stranded though. I was chasing down an electrical short. I am in the process of redoing the wiring, and getting rid of all the bullet connectors.

Seriously, I have taken the seat assembly and tank off so many times that it has become as routine as checking the air in the tires.

Oddly, enough, checking the valves on my Monster has become that "normal" as well. Haven't had my GS long enough to do a valve check, but I know it's much more intense ~

Nice bike. I followed the links and saw the "creation" of your ride. I like the hammer job you did on the tank. Very gutsy. Regardless, the amount of work it takes to have a cool, classic ride is a very distinguishing factor. It's the difference between someone that truly respects the machines we ride and (as shown in another post on this forum) an idiot like the guy who wrecked this bike.

For my own part, I'm currently in the middle of a complete teardown (excepting the engine and tranny - those are fine - I think.) I learn more everyday.
