    Reelfoot Lake (TN) Revisited

Jeff (8trackmind) headed North from Memphis and I headed South from KY this Morning and met at the Halfway Point in Dyersburg TN. Jeff chased Me down after I blew Right past the Rendevous place and We pulled into a Parking Lot to meet and Greet. A Guy walked up to admire the bikes and said He has an 80 GPZ1100 Kaw in a shed at home. Of course Jeff asked if He would sell it but He declined. We jumped on the interstate and crossed the Mississippi at Caruthersville Missouri only to find Flat Delta as far as the Eye could see so We turned around and got on The Great River Road in Tennessee and Followed it in a Roundabout Way to Reelfoot Lake. Here are the Bikes at a Rest Area.

Here is the Mandatory Crappisaki Pic

and Here is Jeff and No He isn't peeing in the Lake (I think)8-[

    sigpic2002 KLR650 Ugly but fun!
2001 KLR650 too pretty to get dirty

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

Jeff had to head back Early due to a Family Obligation so I rode with Him as far as the South end of the Lake in Tiptonville TN (The Childhood Home of Carl Perkins (Blue Suede Shoes) for those Who Care) and then Headed back North. I stopped to take another Pic at a Picnic area

and then Went to the North end of the Lake to take the Nature Drive where I met a New Friend!

You really can't tell how long He is in the Pic but when I found Him He was stretched almost across a whole Lane. I thought He was Dead but as I passed I didn't see any Tread marks so I turned around to take the Pic and He started Moving. The trail is a Paved road through the Swamp with Water on bith sides of the road most of the time. It dead ends after about 5 Miles at a Boat Launch where I took this Pic.

Nope. I had already visited the "Fish Cleaning and Restroom...room".
I've never seen one of those before. Very strange.

Actually, I saw many strange things.
5 people on one ATV.
6 foot wide two lane road...
      7 foot crappy.

All in all, it was a good day. Thanks, Scott

After that I headed back to Kentucky but didn't stay there. Somehow I made a loop and wound back in Tennessee. Now knowing basic Geography, it stands to Reason that any Road going North should go back into Kentucky. Well Not all of them! I got on TN 22 North in Tiptonville and rode for several miles and came to a Dead End at the River. I took a dirt road across a Cotton Field and walked up to the top of the Levee and thought that this was the Perfect Where the HE!l am I Pic!:-D

So I rode back into Tiptonville for the 3rd Time and Headed Home on a Route I knew via Hornbeak, Union City, Fulton etc. Got home about 4:15 with 330 Miles on the Odometer.\\/

Wow, Reelfoot lake. I was born in Union City and use to go up to Reelfoot lake (Site of America's biggest Earth Quake), to go fishing. The Mississippi ran backwards for an hour after the Quake filling that lake. Course you knew that. Lake was named after the Reelfoot indians that were swallowed up by the Quake. Seemed like everyone that lived on that lake could play World Class guitar and banjos

Went to school in a three room Catholic grade school in Hickman,Ky. Haven't been back in 43 years.

              Thanks for the memory.

Great photos and thanks for sharing! Very nice blue and white paint scheme on that Suzi too. Interesting thought about the guy admiring the bikes and having a Kawi GPZ1100 sitting in a shed. Sheesh, it makes you wonder why he doesn't just get it the hell out of there and running!

But of course he doesn't want to sell it! We've got an older retired couple up here in the High Desert of SoCal, that has a 70' Cuda that's been sitting in the back yard for years! It's faded red, with the white hockey stripe down the side and the twin-scoop hood. A few months back, while prepping for a bike ride, the woman was outside and I asked her about it and she bluntly told me "We ain't selling it, we're going to restore it"....

                  Yeah, right....
