Bruce, I see a Mares sticker in your back window. You a diver?

I snorkel and dive off the Yucatan coast every year and love it.
The water here in Maine is a little too murky so I don't do it too much at home.

I sure am! My wife and I are both certified divers (PADI). We make trips to the coast for diving, and also dive in Lake Tahoe alot.

Great story. Those v-twin guys are a riot. I'm glad that that other guy in the bar was into the 4 cylinder jobs.

I once had a v-twin guy say some funny stuff to me.

        Tator~ Nice scoot. It's a sportster, eh?

        Guy on sportster~ Yep

        Tator~ That's a flathead 1200, eh?

        Guy on sportster~ Yep, 1200. It's not a flathead though. It's a v-twin.

        Tator~ I know it's a v-twin, but isn't it also a flathead?

        Guy~ It's not a flathead or panhead or shovelhead.... it's a v-twin........

        *Awkward silence*

After he took off, I laughed. It's great how these guys think they can beat you in a race even though they don't even know what kind of engine they have.

I get old timers eyeing my bike everywhere I go. One just stared as he walked by. "I hadn't seen one of those in a very long time .... wow ... amazing its in such good shape".

          Yeah, its always nice :-D

Then of course I get asked every now and then "Hey isn't that the bike from Top Gun?"

          sheesh

Same here too. I was diving for four years before I got certified in 1977. My PADI instructor from then is still my best friend, 31 years later. My younger brother was certified the year after and my older brother two years after that. In his usual fashion, the older one became an instructor and opened a dive shop in Latham, NY, which gave me a lot of gear at cost.

For about ten years in a row, I would make a trip to Coz every winter. When I started going, it was really just a divers place. By the time I stopped, it was full a f*$^in' cruise ships. The reefs there are still among the best, but the rest went down the toilet. Lots of diving over the years in Lake Superior, Lake Champlain and Lake Michigan, too (even went diving near Popham Beach State Park in Maine a few years ago - it was definitely cold).

My wife was certfied about eight years ago.

You should have passed him in the grass for the fun of it.

Good stories yall. No one has made fun of my bike yet. My uncle who rides an 08 road king chuckled when i got into a rev contest with him. But then I laughed hard at him when he said he paid about 16 grand for his. I replied that I only paid 200 for mine and she's got less miles than yours!

Oh and my buddy Miah said my rims were pentagrams. I stared a bit then replied, " It's the devil's bike"

The big crack over here is that you pay a few hundred £s for your insurance on a modern 600 and I pay £98 for both my CB1100F and the GS1000S together, though that doesn't mean I can ride them both at the same time!

My annual service costs are next to nothing whereas a lad at work's arse-in-the-air CBR600 cost him £800 for minor work recently (more than both my bikes cost to buy).

And when I run down the cafe meets it's my bike that everyone wants to take home (excepting the straight-pans on the beemers).

LMAO ain't it the truth. :-) Lean 10 deg and stick a knee as far out as possible, even hang off and hunker down, it looks sooooo cool. I love cruising by them on the outside, sitting up while eating gummy bears with my left hand. LOL

Its even more fun when you flip the throttle lock on, pass them sitting up eating gummy bears with your RIGHT hand.... Some of those youngsters wonder how in the world youre going faster than they are and you're not even using the throttle...hehehe

When I had my shop in Hawaii one of the Harley shops was selling bumper stickers that all the Harley guys had on the back windows of their cars & trucks. They said "I'd rather PUSH my Harley than ride a Jap bike!" After seeing too many of them I had some made for my shop that said "I'd rather RIDE my Jap bike than push a Harley!" I gave them to every owner whose bike I serviced! I wish I still had some! Ray.

last weekend the local drag strip had all bike races. the winner of the pro class was a '78 GS1000. built to the hilt of course but essentially the same motor as my old bikes. this guy beat all the turbo busa's, kawasaki z-whatevers and vmax's in the place.

now if i could just get a halfway decent reaction time....

Heh heh he LMAO. At least following a pack of them through some curves is usually an amusing experience. I have difficulty keeping up with them because I cant see well due to the tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. :-)

That story is hilarious no matter how many times I read it. It's great to see some random drunk arguing your bike is better.
