Being a beautiful morning up in the country, my wife and I decided to head out early for a 40 mile loop around central NH on the 1100G. Sun just coming up, a little nip still in the air, we took off, leaving the teenagers sound asleep at home. There were very few cars or bikes out, even though it was the last day of motorcycle week up here. Carving through those back roads started the clock turning back again. Being newly married and having no jobs some years ago, we used to spend a lot of time on the old Norton. Recreation was our 2 sleeping bags, a pup tent, and a small overnight bag bungeed on along with peanut butter sandwiches, cruising up to the White Mountains campground sites. I thought of how this bike handles almost as good through the winding roads, but much quieter and smoother. The thought of a breakdown seems remote now. Back then we kept our fingers crossed. My mind drifting off, every turn and lean instinctive, lost in the morning smells and scenery zipping by. An assortment of woodlands, swamps, small ponds, little town centers, and an occasional hay field painted the trip. Then I felt the old familiar squeeze of her legs and....aaahh...well we'll skip over that part! Here we were, back in 2008, having much more comforts of life, six kids and many responsibilities, but the same things are still important. Some things never change! Use it or lose it (at least until it wears out):-)...the bike I mean of course...heh! heh!

Good story. Four of us GSR locals had a nice BBQ yesterday, did a little wrenching, then went for a nice late afternoon ride. It wasn't long, but enough to remind me of the reason I enjoy riding so much. The bike running smooth as butter and sounding oh so good makes the ride just that much more enjoyable.

Not too good actually. I received confirmation Friday that I have a ruptured disc in the lowest level of my cervical spine. I still believe I have something torn in my right shoulder, but they're concentrating on my neck at the moment. I can hardly my right arm to do anything strenuous. To put it in perspective, I can't even throw a paper wad across the room without severe pain.
I could only ride about an hour before my right hand started going numb and it was hard to hold my head up. Hips were hurting pretty good, too, but that hasn't got anything to do with the accident. Had to go home and take some pain meds.
I'm planning to go on another ride soon. Just take it a little at a time.
