it was a warm summer night in san dimas calif .the year was 1983. it was friday and around 8 pm. i had the itch to take a little ride on my 82 GS1100. what a sweet wife i have, 2 little girles and dad needs to go out on the bike.
i stopped at the burger king , their was about 10 bikes their, every one was a kawa sport bike. one was a eddie lawson replica. also everybody seemed to hang around this GPZ1100. we all started to talk who was the fastest. we all went out to the local illegal street race spot and the GPZ and i raced 2 times. it was close but i won both races. after we all got back to the burger king you should have seen the looks on all those kawa riders. i guess i beat their hero . they were nice about it and i went home. i never saw that groupe again. thank god nothing bad happened . little girles and a wife home and dad has to go out a be foolish. funny thing is at 61 years old i still do that kind of stuff. the girles are grown up and the wife and i had a 40 th anaversery last year. life is good

the 82 GS1100 was sold in 1984. it is my all time fav bike. speaking of honda cb 1100f. i like that bike a lot. just missed picking up a very nice example out of the cycle trader for 3,000 bucks.
i also raced one back in the day. we both had pipe and re jet. i beat him only by power shifting every gear, beating the crap out of my bike. i doubt 1 bike length seperated us the entire race.

got snubed by a guy on a V ROD at a light. i was on a kawa ZRX 1200r at the time. well it was a heavy trafic sunday on pacific coast highway in seal beach calif. after about 5 miles i caught him at a signal with a lot of space up ahead. he thought he could beat a old looking sit up jap bike i guess.
WRONG blew his doors off in front of hundreds of cars around me. was that ever stupid. got away with it though. i got a million of these stories.

Mine was from 60mph on up. I got the jump on him by going to 2nd and shifting up at 9k. He stayed with me all the way to 5th but backed off at ridiculous speed. We were both touring and drove across KY at break neck speed.

Here in the city, I seldom am challenged by Harley guys, because most of them are older guys who probably know better. But down near where i work, in the burbs, full of RUBs, I get challenged pretty regularly. Most times i just shake em off, because whats the point? *I* know I will dust them, and thats enough for me. But sometimes, i get a little froggy. Especially when its some young guy on a blinged out Street Glide or whatever model who must incessantly rev his retardedly loud crap pipes at me. There have been a couple times where I will actually let him get the jump, then I will hit second gear, roll it up to about 7 or 8 grand and show him two fingers as i go by, like I just beat you in second gear dude, peace. Yeah, I occasionaly succumb to the temptations of the GS1100 vs Nearly Haditsons, but not often....

I was riding with a friend through downtown Raleigh and was snubbed by a Harley guy. He looked around me on my F4i to wave at my friend on his silly Big Dog.
He's revving the crap out of his bike, looking over me again, at my friend like "What's with the silly plastic bike?".
First light he takes off for all it's worth and I easily keep up with him, just kinda looking over at him the whole block.
Second time I let him get ahead and then passed him while I was on the back tire. He turned at the next light.

In 1990 I built my first turbo bike for a customer. It was a big blocked 1260 with a Mr. Turbo kit. We set the boost at 15 pounds & the owner told me to keep it & work ALL the bugs out & call him when it was ready. I rode it probably 6 or 7 times while taking care of issues, moving & changing pipe hangers & boost gauge & small issues. The night before I called him to tell him it was ready I took it to a bike night spot. There were GSXRs & ZX10s & FZR1000s so this 83 GS1100 didn't get much attention at first. I walked around & talked to a lot of the guys I knew & one of my friends told me there was a guy with a Yoshimura built GSXR with a 1254 motor that the owner would race anyone for 100 bucks. I went over & asked him if he had the cash on him & showed him mine. We gave the money to another friend of mine to hold & took off for the H-1 freeway. About 50 other bikes rolled out before us to go run blocking on the freeway. We got up on the freeway & got up to the agreed upon 60 MPH roll & I gave him 3 honks & let him go. I was in third gear & after giving him 100 yards I rolled on the GS & got it up on boost. The front end started to come up & I clicked 4th gear. The front end stayed up so I clicked 5th gear. I got even with him at about a buck 30 on the speedo & when he looked over at me, I pegged the throttle & left him like he was parked! I slowed down & we rolled again from 100. This time I left it in 5th gear & the boost came on instantly! The front end started to come up so I got up on the tank & it came down but I still left him like he missed a gear. After that we all went back to the drive in & I got my money. I took the bike back to my shop & turned the boost back down to 8 pounds so the owner wouldn't kill himself! The following day the owner came & got the bike & I told him it was PLENTY fast! About 2 weeks later he brought it back for me to service & go over everything. While we were talking about the bike he told me how he had taken it to a bike night looking for a race & couldn't get any takers. I never had the heart to tell him why but that bike sure was fast! If you have never ridden a GOOD turbo bike on the street, you just don't know what you're missing! Ray.

I have never ridden a turbo bike on the street, but I used to have a turbo on a Toyota Corolla. Car looked like all the other cars in SoCal, aluminum wheels, what were fatter tires back then, but are stock now (185/70-13), no flares, no spoilers. Surprised quite a few people with that little car. Ray, tell them how much 22 pounds of boost can wake up an engine.

Oh yeah, had personalized plates on the Toy. 97HEMI
97 cubic inches is 1600cc, and that's what it had.
