Frikkin' punk kids and their cheap UJMs

Thats what they called it over at Jeffs (8tracks) web site. Its actually a loooong story at Adventure Rider about some dudes that went for a looooong ride.

I found it almost captivating....Quite the adventure !

This trip has been a long time in the making. Ever since my brother and I started riding (about 4 years ago) we knew that sooner or later we'd do this...

        Geeze, I should try that.

Having a natural mechanic for a riding buddy, can't be beat!

Man I would love to ride cross country with a group of friends on cheap bikes. But unfortunately, I dont have any good friends like that.

That would be incredible to do.

From a couple of smaller bike trips and some longer 4x4 trips my friends and I have made, they decided a long time ago that if I can't make the trip they just wont go. From repairing a tie rod with a jack handle, two batteries and some clothes hangers, to repairing a broken throttle cable in a parking lot with just a swedge, pliers, and a knife, I've never been left stranded but always seemed to make it home even if I'm having to limp there.

                    Wow

From a UK perspective, this slams it home that america is a big and fantastic place.
Generally, we only get to see the tourist/media selected bits, that often paint your wonderfull country in a less favourable light.

My hat goes off to these guys, and I'm a little jealous, of lost youth and missed opportunities.

You could do this in the UK, but it would only take 6 days, and would rain all the way!!!

                        These are some smart guys!

"My dad is a physicist at the particle accelerator, my mom is a geneticist, both have their Ph.Ds in their respective fields. I'm working on a Biological engineering degree, my brother is going to grad school at Penn State for electrical materials (he has a degree in Applied Engineering Physics). The other guys in the group are also engineers."

that is an amazing story and journey, those kids are all my age me being 21 and i have never thought of touring. The longest trip i've done is from the western shore of maryland to the eastern shore. This summer my buds and I are doin a skyline drive weekend, but this just shoots our plans down
