Got a bum deal on an S

Trawling through Ebay I came across a GS1000S for sale just 3 miles away and worked out that I knew the guy selling it. So I popped down to see him - he'd only wanted £500 for the bike originally but had had a long distance offer of £1000. He told me if I could match that it was mine. Figuring that was it's value off I trot to get the cash - 'bring it down sometime this week' were his parting words.

Anyway, half an hour later he phones me - a guy has turned up with £2000 on him and although he felt bad about it he couldn't turn his nose up at the extra grand. So I tell him to sell it to the other guy.

So I'm a bit peeved. No way I was going to run anywhere as high - was I being tight?

The listing is below - the paintwork was good, excellent seat base as new. However, the chrome was shot to bits, everything was seized through standing and the aluminium had more fluff on it than a Santa's beard.

    79 GS1000S
    79 GS1000S (another one)
    80 GSX750
    80 GS550
    80 CB650 cafe racer
75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

$2000 american sounds high enough! Looks like it needed a full restoration anyways.

I had a seller lined up and offered him 100 bucks to hold it while i got a bank loan and he said no keep the my 100 as he will keep it for me. Went there 3 days later and he sold it for the same price i was going to pay. So much for trusting someone. Same year and model as what i have, only standard. Wanker

That guy has no integrity whatsoever, you did well to avoid doing business.

I think the seller did you a favour.
The tank is probably junk as well.

                  Your lucky day Dude.

There's a rummer going round that jihadists have planted IEDs in motorcycle tanks. They tell buyers that somebody else offered more money. If a guy comes up with even more cash, the take his money and when gets the bike home, they call his number… BOOM!. They figure somebody who has to pay more than a reasonable price for an old bike, as greedy, corrupt and deserving of death. It's happened here in Michigan to more than a few poor souls.

I checked on snopes.com and couldn't find anything regarding this so it must be true. Buyer definitely beware, or is that infidel buyer beware.
