Broken GS on cross country trip

My brother hit a rock with my '80 GS850G and cracked the front rim while we were riding between Enterprise OR and Clarkston, WA on the way to Lolo Pass. I'm looking for a good used front rim to replace it, somewhere hopefully in this area.

Anybody have any ideas about used parts in this area? I'm searching on the internet, but its Sunday so nobody is open. The current plan is to rent a car to go get a wheel, once it is located. I may have located one in Missoula, but that is 4 1/2 hours away. Anybody know precisely what year and model wheels will fit, and precisely which ones look the same?

    Thanks in advance, Paul

I have a wheel...Might even have a passable tire on it... same model as yours, tho ANY 19inch GS wheel will work (cept for spokies, and they can be made to work..) Im no where close, and it would cost a fortune, but if nothing turns up out there, let me know, we'll figure out a way to overnight it or something..

BTW from 79-81 the wheels looked the same, some may be slightly wider, but will still work just fine and accept whatever tire you have on your other...in 82 they went to a different pattern, but they will ALSO work...and in 83 the "E" models at the tri-spoke wanna be thing going, but they will work too if you need... I have the EXACT wheel to match yours however...

That sounds right to me, if you can just find the nearest MC salvage yard you could be in luck.
However, a cracked rim sounds reparable to me, and finding a welder nearby could be much easier. Check that out.

Thanks. I'tt let you know. It may be able to "Greyhound" it. They have pretty quick semi reasonable shipping.

I have a spare 19" wheel off of a GS1000. I'm just outside Reno. If you need it let me know. It has a tire on it, too.

I have a friend in Seattle that races GS dragbikes & I'll bet he has a stock 1100 front wheel, which is also a 19 inch rim. Call me at 714-356-7845 if that is the closest to you. Ray.

                +1.
One of the reasons I like to hang out here.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties, a wheel shouldn't be to hard to find, they're pretty plentiful.

This GSR member is in Walla Walla and is selling some parts and spends time at the local track. I would PM him right now. He might just know a guy.......

And heres a member in Lewiston, ID that might know the area.

Yeah, let us know. It would be nothing to take my wheel down to the Greyhound station in Reno. You'd probably have it the next day (or sooner). I think they make a run up to Boise every day. Or it could easily be overnighted (might cost alot).

He's over in Bremerton, Wa but I'll bet he's got a wheel or knows where to find one.

What about the possibility of putting a tube in it? Might be a good temporary fix until you get home.

Theres phobia here to ride on old tires or tires with side wall checks. I would be very cautious about riding on a cracked rim. Even if it were welded.
