My first GS (Second Bike) - teenager

Hey

wats up you fellow gsers. I am 15 years old and have been working on motorcycles for about 4 months now.

My first bike was a 1975 yamaha dt 125 with less than 2k miles + titlethat my dad and i picked up as a new hobby start about 4 months ago for $ 250. The bike was running but not drivable, no clutch cable.

Long story short, i did a ton of work to that bike, painting, front/rear brakes, carburator cleaning, air filter, clutch plates (frication plates), wiring, taillight, turn signals, speedometer, rebuild of motor w/ new gaskets, and such.

It was a great experience, and i sold the bike for $800 and that too about 15 min after i posted it on craigslist.

With that money, i bought my 82 gs 300l with less than 8k miles w/ title for $575. So far, i have cleaned carbs, airfilter, and replaced r/r with another gs model (but going to go w/ duanage and get a honda one) and also i've ordered parts for oil filter and stuff and valve clearances are the next step.

The bike is running great now. It woudl bog after like 1/8 throttle before in every gear, but thanks to you all its great now!

i just wanted to let you guys in on me and show that teenagers of this generation are not lazy and idiotic and not all of em buy crotch rockets and get stuck in the middle of nowhere not knowing that they've run out gas.

Way to go. Man I wished I started riding at 15 instead of 18. I could have had a good 3 years extra plus some quality time with my Dad.
Take advantage of that time. My first bike was a DT250.Fun bike.
Nice turn around $$ on the DT.Continue to learn and go slowly.
You will have a lifetime of fun. Don't worry too much about us here. We're not all old farts.
Just middle agae farts. Nice to see some of the youth have the love of bikes early.

what the bike still needs is the seat reupholstered and the emblems, but for now, the PO suck a plastic bolt in the timing window so nothing gets in there.

I think you're wise beyond your years and a lesson for other youngsters

My 15 year old son is trying to get his first bike and had his eye on a kwacker 250 ninja for sale locally at around $2000. Now he's changing his tune a little bit...

He spent hours in the freezing garage over the winter working on two sets of carbs with me to learn how to do it. Actually it was more like the blind leading the blind because I'd never done it before either!

He often goes out in the garage, get's on my 1100 and just sits there. I even let him put it back in the garage off the driveway the other day (I must have had a few beers or something ). A couple of weeks ago he came to me and said he thinks he'd rather have a GS L model than the kwacker

I've been keeping my eye open for something for him for a little while now hoping he'd see the light, 450L would be nice. Haven't found one yet but I'll keep looking, something will turn up. When he get's one, he'll have his own login on the GSR so I can watch him make all the noob mistakes, primarily for the entertainment value, but what he learns will be good for him.

actually, i wanted a kawa ninja 250 right after my dt 125. buy couldn't find any that needed minor work, only totaled ones (which says somethign) and perfect ones. and also my dad wanted us to have a transition bike before something like a ninja

One day, saw the gs ad, called him up and 2hours later, it was in our garage

Nice starter bike. I wish that I had one when I was 15.
Started riding bikes at 14 (rebuilt my first Honda 50. Not mine but I got to ride it!) and the addiction has stuck!

1,035 cc's more and here I am today.

Great job getting as far as you have at a young age. I just got my first bike at 44 so you are way ahead of me. :-) And I bought one already running and now have to learn how to fix what I broke, which is not as much fun.
