I got an experience that happend last weekend. After I got done riding for 30 mins to my friends place I felt pain in my upper left side of my chest. I took off my shirt and found a small nat sized bug went through my polo shirt and was embedded in my skin. Left a tiny blister like pipple. First time this has ever happend. I couldn't believe it hurt some much from such tiny prick.

I watched a guy hit a chicken, that was a mess. Feathers and chicken parts everywhere and it stank on the engine and pipes. Pieces of the bird ended up on us following him.

I just started wearing a full face helmet. Before I only wore safety work glasses. I don't know why I waited so long - I love it. All the crap that used to pelt me in the face now just tinks right off the windsheild. Not only that, if I get caught in a little rain it doesn't feel like pins and needles poking my face to death.

I took a sparrow to the chest once too. Thought someone threw something at me from the woods. Went back and found the poor little fella on the side of the road. Hurt like heck. Took a yellow jacket to the throat two days ago. Going slow enough that it didn't hurt, 'till the bastard stung me. Once I stuck my foot out in a construction zone to kick over an orange cone and it nearly tore me off the bike and felt like I ripped my taint and broke my ankle. Served me right.

Oh, I also wear prescription sunglasses with a clear shield, but I've noticed on some helmets, like the crappy HJC I just bought, the polarization of the sunglasses makes the shield very hard to look through sometimes. Lotsa colorful almost psychedelic kaleidescope (sp?) swirly effects. usually I leave the shield up anyhow. I prefer my old beat up shoei to the new HJC.

Hail HURTS. Even going ATGATT - you can feel it through your gear, especially if you're doing about 50mph when it starts. I can handle some rain, but when it started hailing one particular ride I got under cover the first place I could find - which, conveniently, was a frozen custard place. I had a tasty dessert while I drowned in my misery. I was soon joined by a few other bikers with the same idea.

Back in the years (when I had my old Honda 750) I was doing about 60 mph or so on a back road near Louisville. I was minding my own business when some big hardshelled bug popped me in the middle of my forehead. Thankfully I was wearing a helmet. It hit so hard that a tiny mark was left on the helmet. I have never ridden without a helmet since.

That makes me wonder... do people often get "racked" in motorcycle mishaps, or does the [busted head / knee / bike] take enough priority that that little inconvenience isn't noticed?

I've never been racked except for those fvcking hailstones.
And once by a big ass bird, but that's another story.
I think they automatically retract when in danger.

I have only crashed hard once and when I came to, I couldn't feel much of anything for a while.

I did slide off the road into a ditch on the backside of Mt. Hamilton in Calif.. I had over cooked it coming up a raise and when I could see over the other side of the raise, the road turned HARD left NOW!!! I grabbed a handfull of brake and as I slid into the ditch, I put my feet out to ward off the dirt wall on the far side of the ditch. the bike didn't go over but I thought I had split myself in two from crotch to gullet. I tottered on home and packed the boys in ice! Didn't walk right for days!

I was riding a nice set of twisties over the weekend, beautiful Sunday morning and the 850 was purring. I threw her into a corner and was just about to bring her back up and take the line into the other when I see the dreaded Guinea Hen sitting in the middle of the ****ing road. Was not going to move at all. So.....

                                It tasted like chicken.

The bird story was real, I just missed it, but I was glad I had my protection on.
