outlaw GS crash at the track...Ouch!

This was on a nice day testing my friends Outlaw GS1100. On the second pass down the track after a no nitrous run he was going to make a full on "spray" pass. some how the progressive box malfuntioned and put 200 HP of nitrous to the bike all at once around the 1/8th mile mark. As you can see by the photo it jumed off of the ground running over 140 mph according to the 1/8th mile time on the slip. I asked him what did he think he was doing and he said he thought he could ride it out. Yeah right. I would have jumped off. He suffered a broken wrist, and a collarbone plus some rash. full gear saved him from being beat up too bad. The bike suffered minor damage and had to have a new body but not as bad as you would think. I think he was lucky not to have been hurt worse. anyway the track photographer got a great shop of his wild ride.

The bike runs in semdra and locally in the outlaw class. it's 74" inch wheelbase. a no bar class. 4.70's in the 1/8th mile 7's in the 1/4. generally it's not that viloent. I guess it was the extra 200 HP coming on at once. He said it came up so fast that by the time he realized it was up it was too late to let off. then it came off the ground too. It has a promod GS motor in it. very fast. And it's just a back halfed GS1100 frame.

Doing 140 mph and it stands straight up and jumps in the air...amazing that he survived with the relatively small injuries.
The idea of jumping off/letting go at those speeds must have been terrifying as well.
I remember seeing this clip of Korry Hogan bailing at 200 after a huge electrical shock. I am in awe of you high speed drag racers.

From talking to him he thought he was going to ride it out. he held on till it tore the tail of the bike of then he let go. he mostly slid for a ways. good gear is a must.
