Heard of Profiling?
Well, speeding is a trigger to look at the culpret to see if there isn't something more dangerious going on. It has been a while since I was in a patrol car. And, I agree the warnings seemed to make folks think about what they were doing. Speeding alone, or driving too fast for the conditions (my favorite) isn't defently going to get someone killed, add in wreckless and endangering and another story comes to light.
But, sometimes you stop a speeder and the odor of cheap booze and who knows whatelse hits you and the tickets fly. You think we make moola off a speeding ticket, ought to check out the fines and costs for a DUI. Remember the cop citing you isn't getting anything extra for doing his job, there are no bonuses for number of tickets written, etc, I just felt like I had someone some good for stopping a drunk. Did I say how much I really don't like drunk drivers?

I'm with you Bill, I'm actually thinking about doing my argumentative essay on this for school. This girl in my class brought up how she's gotten a DUI(a gas station employee called her in). She tried telling the class that she thinks DUI's are "money makers" for the government. I wanted to laugh in her face.Comment

Car chases don't happen here no matter what you're driving / riding because the cops won't chase you most of the time. It's considered dangerous in urban areas and the view is that they'll catch you down the road somewhere (or their mates will). It works 99% of the time. Hearing of a car chase is very rare.Back where i grew up, the locals were pretty much told to use discretion if attempting to pull over a motorcycle, and were usually ordered to fall back if the rider took off and fled on any kind of sport bike.
Because they had an enormous amount of high speed cycle chases every month, almost always ending in multiple fatalities or the rider getting away from police.
Turns out, it was just costing the county too much money to chase them left and right.
(my sheriff buddy told me that, and i've heard of other counties doing the same thing....because it simply gets too dangerous....the police dont stand a chance in hell at catching up to a sportbike, and if the police chopper does arrive, so what? There are literally hundreds of winding roads covered with thick trees, and the chopper can't follow, atleast where I used to live.)
It's funny, i actually KNOW somebody who ran from the locals back home, i believe he had a CBR 900 or kawasaki. He was crankin 150mph on Rt. 4, and flew RIGHT past a speed-trap with 2 local squad cars. He said he looked in his mirrors and they didn't even move at all, lol.Comment

Last I heard I think about 15 people a year in the UK get caught in the crossfire and killed by police involved in high speed chases.
These are just bystanders.
You can police small areas with low populations on the basis you can get them for the next one, and that's what used to happen in UK, but since it all got rolled up into Big Policing that don't work any more.
Still works where I live, I'm happy to say
