I picked up a brown '81 850G in perfect shape with 1300 miles on it for $1300. Then I bought a leftover '82 or '83 850G new for as I recall $2300. We picked up a couple more contracts, and I ended up spending the next three years working in Fairbanks, so we never took the trip. We did ride all over the state though. This photo was taken on the summer solstice in '87 outside of Dawson City.

My first GS's
Back in '87, I became unemployed in Anchorage. I thought that I would not be working in AK again, so I thought I would buy a motorcycle and ride out. Then decided I would buy two, and ride out with my brother.

Cool story, nice pic. How were the roads back then? Better now?
Next time you plan a trip back to Maine try to get to the Moosehead Rally, then we can hear more stories around the fire.

Nice to have those old pics to jog the good memories! ....btw, I don't see the '83 1100E in your list? Did your nephew "inherit" it?
