It sounds like your fiancé's cousin is a decent guy. And you've done right by him. Yes, you feel bad about messing up someone else's stuff but that's because you're a decent guy too. This will turn out to be one of those family stories that gets told around the Christmas tree every year. It's a bonding experience. Now you both know how much you care for and respect each other. After all, you're family.
I'm sure you've learned to be extra careful when riding unfamiliar machinery. Even when I ride another GS, even if it's the exact same model, there are differences in brakes, tires, handling, etc, to be wary of. I'm glad you're healing up. Don't forget your helmet next time.
Thank you for your indulgence,

Good stuff, thanks. I already feel fine about the whole thing now, but I have never been that dissapointed in myself, very foreign feelings.

I rode his bike last summer twice, so this wasn't the first time on it. I definitely will think differently about riding other people's bikes now. I'm ashamed that it took me until I am 27 to realize this lesson, especially the hard way. I probably won't ever ride anyone else's bike again. I really have no desire to ride my bike for a while either, which sucks too.
Now I am remembering how badly it sucks to change bandages and shower with road rash. Havn't had it since I was a kid riding a bicycle.
My fiance's cousin is cool, we hang out with them almost every weekend, so he is no stranger. He stressed that he didn't want to make this a "thing."
Again, thanks for listening, its somewhat therapeutic to have come on here and talk about it.sigpic Too old, too many bikes, too many cars, too many things

I wouldn't beat myself up over it too much. You learned a couple of things at minimal cost and injury. Now you know. ehe Some bikes normally require whole hand braking, others need only one finger to produce the same effect.
If your head falls six feet and strikes asphalt, it doesn't make any difference whether you were just standing and slipped on a bar of soap, or fell off a stopped/moving motorcycle.

As often happens around here, Cliff's comments seem the most appropriate. Both parties handled the situation well, the machinery was repaired, life goes on a little wiser. All in all, a good ending to the story.

Dude, I'm 27 also, never dropped my bike at speed yet.
Slipped and toppled over in the gravel plenty of times though!
Lol
Everytime I drop my bike, it's in the garage or on the driveway.
It's always after I've had a few, just wrenching or taking off the carbs, and no matter what, I just ALWAYS seem to tug or push too hard and knock her right over on myself! Lol
I tend to get clumsy when I drink and wrench!
Hell I watched my own Dad dump my bike in the yard one night!
Luckily there was grass to break the fall.
I made him give me his credit card, to replace the broken brake lever, lol
But I just laugh at it all now.
Actually now that I think of it.....I thought it was kinda funny at the time too!
**** happens man, be greatful you didn't experience a wreck like some of the other guys on here did.....YIKES!
