This is kind of a tech item, but more about due diligence. Either way I just wanted to post a quick story so it shows up in future searches (without cluttering up the tech section).
I had an issue with the oil pressure light always being on, so with the day free I decided to tackle the problem. I searched this forum for answers, and the popular solution that popped up was to check to see if there was a ground issue. I looked in the manual for the wire colors so I could trace them. First,I removed the back of the tack to make sure everything was in the correct place.
Bingo! It turns out that I had the wrong wire going to the oil light, and I was riding around with my high beams on.
Lesson 1: Don't assume you did things right the first time.
Lesson 2: Check the easy stuff first, it'll save you a ton of time.
