    Feels good to be riding (finally)!

    Bought The Flame! two years ago. First two seasons ('08 and '09), I was spending as much time doing "diagnostic rides" to nail down issues as I was doing real (i.e, for enjoyment) rides. After finally nailing down and resolving those issues, this season is the year to RIDE, baby! The Flame! is now my daily commuter, as well as my escape from mundane reality.

    Feels good to be riding a strong, reliable, fun machine...

    Congrats! Sounds like a project finally coming to completion. And a 25 year gap in bike ownership - between those 2 tidbits, sounds like there's more of a story here...

    2 years of tinkering, hopefully, like the rest of us, available time was a factor in that (as opposed to difficulties resolving issues.)

    What's up with the bike - what did it need? What did it look like when you got it? What's it look like now? Details! Pictures!

      No too much of a story, actually. I'm a non-wrencher, so the real work was done by others. As a non-wrencher, I try to be as detailed in my descriptions to the mech of problems as possible, hence the many diagnostic rides.

      One big problem dogged me for awhile and was directly connected to my being a non-wrencher. I had a hard time finding a good, reliable mech who actually knows these bikes. In the interim, I had two different mechs tell me the petcock was good (after my first-ever post on the GSR asking about what seemed like a carb issue was met with several suggestions referencing the petcock). So, after chasing after "carb" issues for a year, I finally replaced the petcock despite the "expert's" opinions. Problem solved.
