Meant to put up a picture with the other post, after all whats a post without a picture.

Nice little wood working shop that's pretty close to where I live. Actualy this site is the old round about for the trains that used to rumble through Victoria and the Island not too long ago. A developer bought the property and is going to make a community living thing out of it all.

Glad to hear you got your GS1000 jetting dialed in . . . BTW you have done a great job on your 1978 GS1000 and it shows.

Thanks for the compliment Steve. She's not quite up to your 1000 but I'm having fun with her that's for sure.

So the old girl has been pushing blue smoke for the last few years as a few of you can attest to and it was my plan to pull the motor this fall and rebuild the top end but with the rally coming up and more oil seepage I though I would take a chance and throw in a spare engine I had.

Was very lucky, it's tight with compression numbers of 140 +/- 2 and not a single oil leak that I can see yet. I think it pushing a titch of blue on decel but not much and that may improve with mileage. The swap went pretty well and quick considering, the only problem was this

that slowed things down for a couple of hours but managed to save the threads in the end so all was good. Decided to paint the engine black this time, nothing fancy by no means but she looks good from a few feet away.

Ya, I'm pretty stoked that the engine is as good as it is, who would have thought. Even had studs on it for the exhaust which I've always meant to do. Now I can get onto the other changes I want to do before the rally.

Let me know when you do the fender change out if you want to sell the front fender. I have been looking for a gs1000e chrome fender that doesn't have dings or pits in it.

Ask around but I think the 80 850 chrome fender is the same as the 78 1000...or so very close youd never know the difference.

Sorry, this one has two decent size dents on it

That's quite a transformation in that engine's condition. How long did that take, excluding the spark plug episode?

Took about 6-8 hrs to get the engine out and the new one in, valves set and fired up. At that point I had not done any painting, only hooked up the bare essentials to have her start and see what I was dealing with. Took another 6-8 hrs or so to paint, hook everything up, polishing a few things and taking my time etc... I must be getting better at taking these engines in and out though, I usually pull a back muscle . I did the whole thing over 3 days bit by bit along with some other projects at the same time. I'll post those up in the next week or so, I hope.

I really like the black block and silver covers, along with the black body work on this 1000E.

Finished some more 'stuff' with the good ol' 78'

Put the rebuilt Marzocchi's back on, front end has a brand new set of 1.0 Sonic springs and a pair of cartridge emulators. Fresh set of Avon roadriders and I decided to throw the spoked rims back on. All other that means one tight ass suspension system oh ya, also changed out the stock front fender for a shorter one, I think it's from an 'L' but don't tell anyone... um, what else, put the Emgo fairing back on, oh YA put an 82' aluminum swing arm on and finally changed over to a 530 chain/sprocket. I think that's it. I did make a cool little tool tray for under the seat where the airbox was but I'll post that somewhere else. So she's all ready for a Vintage show this weekend then 2 weeks on the road for the PNW rally!! should be fun
