Well, I just can't seem to leave things alone with this old bike. Took her to the North West rally last year and she really started springing some leaks, literally. 2 holes in the gas tank and one broken clutch cable. So parked her and did a few changes over the winter while I rode the trusty 'G'.........

Turned out pretty good I think, good enough for me that's for sure. I've only had her back on the road in the last week or so, feels good to have her up and running again.

Other than the colour change, the major difference is the Ikon shocks in the back. Man what a smoother ride than the Marzocchi's, and super adjustable. Might have a nice set of Marzocchi's up for sale soon

There's still a few other things I'll be doing, hopefully this year but if not it'll give me something to change for next spring.

The lack of Marzocchi's is what through me. It really looks nice! Much better color for someone who is such an enthusiast( read addicted). No wonder you don't want to hang with us in John Day. You don't want to make us feel bad aboot our shabby bikes. Cheers.

I paint my own frames, of all things I use Tremclad rust paint, I've tried others including POR 15 products but nothings better and easier. I used a guy in Langford for the tank (did a decent enough job but I wouldn't recommend him for other reasons) and the other parts I painted myself.

You need to re-stretch that seat cover using a hair dryer to loosen it up and get rid of the edge wrinkles and tack it down again

That was loose fitted soon as I got the package from Thialand. I have restretched it after it sat in the sun for a few hrs. These were just "for comparison" pictures when I finally got the OEM patterned cover.

Took apart the front forks and reset the Mikes XS cartridge emulators to 2 turns out instead of 3 and change the fork oil to 10W instead of 15W which it had. It's a pretty smooth ride now compared to when I had the Marzocchi's on the rear and the front feels smoother now, not so hard. And it was diving a bit in the corners which is gone now. 'If' I feel like it I'll check the static sag. The PVC spacers are 70mm right now, might be better if they were a bit longer.

How do the Mikes Emulators work? I thought they were for a smaller diameter fork?

Emulators work great. I could really feel the difference in the recent change and overall they just help the front end be a bit tighter. I can notice the difference in general and fast riding. The emulators are for the smaller 35mm forks of the XS bikes, but we can use them in our forks with the simple addition of a brass adapter that fits into our 37mm forks. I friend made mine but I know you can buy them online, just can't remember where.
