      I've heard you can get an oversize drain plug that will work on tired threads. Of course, that's not the "right" way to do it...

        just did the search feature last nfor the same issue on my newphews 1100 its called a PLUS 1 drain plug at Auto zone.. The threads are just deeper and it recuts new threads into the pan while you screw it in..do the search and type in stripped oil plug.

          I've been using an oversize plug now for the last 3 years with no problems. I didn't really feel like pulling the pan. Figure 3 years ago I had about 65k on the bike, now I've got 90,300. That's a lot of oil changes.

              Man, you are one skillful dude. Your motocross skills saved your butt, along with your clear thinking. They go 75 in those lanes. Let me know if I can assist you in any way with getting your bike back up, but you are probably best getting a new one.

                My nephew bout an oversized tap and plug when he stripped his.

                I'm pretty sure that I would have tossed myself and the bike down the road under the same circumstances. I'm glad you had the skills to save your hide.

                  I have it up and running, I J&B Welded my oil pan shut with a new bolt so I was able to get home the next day. I figured since it's a fresh oil change by the time I'm due I can get another oil pan on ebay since I saw one for $15 or just pump the oil out.

                  Now I have a leaking fork seal from putting in the truck bed.

                    I had the drain plug come out of my GS1000 on the highway shortly after I got it(5 years ago). I was going through my parts the other day and found the plug! It had managed to wedge itself into the collector.

                      I may need help with just changing out my rear rotar since somehow with the oil it wore a groove in it and one of my fork seals.

                          You cheated the devil for sure, not too many would've come out as good.
                          Hope that never happens to me, closet to it was when I had a rear tire blow out at 70mph with passenger on back of Honda CB450. Thought I was going to die for sure.
                          Stripped a drain plug on a little Honda I had, just tapped it out to a size for a pipe fitting with it's own plug. Worked out well although not original.

                            if it makes you feel any better I know there are others on this forum who have had the rear tire lock up on the freeway and handled it with less style than you seem to have.
                            Scary as it is, I don't think anyone has ever given up riding as a result.

                              I had someone over the house with a 550 and they lost the drain plug 1/2 mile from the house. There was a tell tale oil slick for 3 weeks right to my garage.

                                Have a drink and don't worry about the bike for a while. It will still be there later.
                                Sad to hear it happened, glad it turned out as well as it did. Everybody should learn to ride on dirt. I have a final-drive oil leak onto my tire. Your story will keep me from riding on it at all. Thanks and good luck with the fix-ups. Now's a good time to upgrade

                                Could the groove and lock-up be from something jamming between the pads and rotor?

                                There are Save-a-Thread kits available from NAPA. I used one on my Volvo's engine's spark plug threads when the #1 cylinder's threads somehow stripped out and I fired a plug out the top of the engine
                                The thread inserts are solid hardened steel and won't strip out (easily).
                                The first thing you should do is run an original size thread tap through the hole and see if that helps.
