    Faster than a Ferrari??

I am the proud owner of an '81 650 G. My pride grew a little stronger this afternoon....

While running some errands in Southern California, I pulled up next to a shiny new Ferrari F430(black, in case you were wondering) at a stop light. Seeing as how I am a HUGE exotic car fan, I couldn't help but flip up my face shield and talk to the guy driving this majestic beauty. I started the conversation by asking him how fast his car is, followed by an enormous grin. He replied that it has a top speed of 200 mph and could run 0-60 in 4 seconds. I responded with...."Oh yeah? Lets find out!"

Money bags proceeded to sit up in his seat to see what I was riding. He then responded, "You'd beat me." I laughed, flicked down my face shield, and waited for the light to turn green. Knowing that I had no shot of beating this guy in any kind of race, I was still excited to see what one of my dream cars was really made of!

The light turned green and I shot off the line, giving the asphalt everything my little 650 had to offer. I could hear my engine roaring as the RPM's rose. 1st gear......hard shift into 2nd (front tire comes off the ground an inch or two).....3rd....! I didn't see the car in front of me, so I must have won?!? Much to my dismay, the Ferrari was 200 yards behind me, accelerating at a normal pace with the rest of the cars. What happened???!!!???

Whether money bags, Ferrari pants was scared of losing, or too proud to race a 30 year old bike i'll never know.... But it made my day!

You're little dream car has huge insurance coverage followed up by a humongous insurance bill. Tack on a racing ticket to that bill..
The dude didn't acquire the coin to buy a car with a big price tag by being a moron.

It looked like the opportunity of a lifetime for me!

There are really only two types of people who buy exotic sports cars....People who want to go fast....and people who want to look fast. Based on the looks of the guy and our short conversation, he is the latter. Call it whatever you'd like.....If I were in the Ferrari, I would have at least given the biker a show. If you have money to buy a Ferrari, the insurance bill and occasional speeding ticket shouldn't mean peanuts. Maybe it was a rental?

The opportunity of a lifetime probably pops up for someone 10 times a day when he drives that car.
          Like Ferrari's? Here's a F40 on a run:

My son and I had a day like that about ten years ago. We were riding two-up on a Honda 450, and behind the Ferrari, however, that driver was trying hard to go fast from every traffic light, but could never pull away from the little Honda until he got above 50mph ..and then had to stop for the next light, so we caught up and got to try again.

Haha, that's great! I've driven a Vanquish....I think I could beat it to 80....after that I'd be toast. The gt40 on the other hand......

Maybe I had more of a shot than I realized? After all....the 0-60 figures for these types of cars are the product of professional drivers in perfect conditions....Not based on what Joe Shmoe millionaire can provide from one light to the next.

It's less that he's afraid than he's just bored with the drag race idea - as stated, he probably gets a dozen offers a day to race

Besides, The Ferrari really isn't a drag racer

He DID try to let you down easy

I havent driven it yet, she let me drive her Vanquish before her son when I left to the Army

But it was only bought when she beat cancer, then it reappeared and she decided when they took her boobs she was goin all out and looks great now, especially only being 47 in a white 2006 Shelby GT40 with a blue race stripe with twin turbo.

Hopefully she has no more cancer, but then again... she does like her cars.

In a lot of places street racing is a go to jail do not pass go proposition these days. Nothing screams take me to jail like a Ferrari going full steam on surface streets.

It was likely the Ferrari didn't race for the same reason I don't race a HD rider that thinks he is the schnitz at a light. I grin and let them go because they have no chance, zero, zip of taking the B12 on their best day.
