Bike died on the way to work, Bummer

Well, relaxing, riding to work and Duh, dies.
Couldn't get it started so I lit a smoke and watched the traffic.
Had four people stop to help, it was nice !

First a woman in a car with out of state plate stops, asks if I'm OK and could she do anything to help. I thank her and ask her to just call the local police and tell them I'm here.

Next, a guy pulls his over burdened pickup off the road and walks over, we chat, look the bike over, talk about why the bike won't start, blah blah.
Turns out he's got an old Honda he loves to ride and has had his fair share of "crap" moments too.
Anyway I say all is good and thank him, he leaves.

Next guy pulls up on a Harley, older guy my age, same story, shoot the breeze talk about old bikes. I thank him and off he goes.

Next, a woman in a van stops, asks if I'm OK, says she'll notify the police for me and offers to wait to keep me company. I tell her she doesn't have to wait but thanks. so she leaves.
ten minets later she shows up again to "make sure I'm OK ".
We caht a little and the police finally show.

So the cop offers me a ride home, opens the car door and starts rearranging all the crap in the front seat.
A duffel bag, an AR15, thermos jug, etc.
I say, you want me to ride in the back ?
    Naaa, he says, jump in.
We ride home and hes talking about the yahoos on cell phones, and people not paying attention, and I say "you ought to try riding a bike in this mess, it's nerve whracking sometimes"
He says yea I'll bet, it's nerve whracking riding in this cruiser.

So I'm home, waiting for the flatbed to show up, and given the people I met and talked with this morning I'm almost happy to have broken down.

Good stuff, nice to know that people will stop and offer assistance.

Hope your problem is easily fixable.

Damn ! So much distraction you couldn't troubleshoot the problem. Got gas ? Did you try to start on PRI ? Gas cap vent plugged ? Let us know what you find.....

Glad it all went good enough, cell phone and towing coverage is the best defense for things that could go wrong. Progressive has an addon for that, though I never used to to know how well it actually goes, aaa wanted more money to cover the bike and the "extra" for progressive was actually free since they have a min charge and was well under it with the basic coverage. I kept adding things till it went up lol.

Also curious what it might be, was the lights dimming like out of charge? My bike did that to me a few times last fall as the stator started to fail on me. Is it on the way to a shop or your garage?

As break down experiences go, that's a GREAT ONE!

Good luck with the troubleshooting and repair.

You know, it wasn't that bad an experiance really.
A few really nice people kind of help blunt the cynical attitude I've developoed over time. I needed that.

As far as bike problem goes, I tried restarting the bike once it quit, turned over fine but didn't catch, and after a short period of time the battery pooped out so I think it's the stator. And the choke cable pulled right out about 8 inches so that's broke.
When I checked it the other day with the multimeter on the battery I was only getting 11.6v at idle and 12.8v at 4000rpm.
I replaced the r/r previously, like last week, soooo.
I should go through the wiring again and make sure all is clean but it feels like the stator.
