from my valve cover gasket where a couple bolts had loosened up. (using a real gaket with very little torque on bolts), AND a small drip originating from my Ape manual chain tensioner.
After reading a few posts i pulled the head nut # 14 and sure enough the o-ring was shot.
Replaced both o rings, retorqued, checked the other head nuts, and was good to go.
Reinstalled the real gasket (gotta be real clean and dry or it will slide/squish out) and used some thread sealer this time on the bolts to make sure they didn't back out.
The tensioner was leaking from the oring that seals off plunger chanel, and the lock nut tightens over it.
It looks like the last time I made an adjustment the O-ring had squished out and crimped some, and didn't seat fully in the plunger gap. The Manual tensioner has a nut on the rear of the plunger that you turn clockwise or counter to rotate the plunger in or out to tighten or losen the cam chain. However the the nut is perma pinned and can not be removed.
Needless to say i had to cut it off to be able to remove the lock nut and thus replace the o-ring. After a little cussing i got it off, replaced the o-ring, put the lock nut back on, and replaced the adjusting nut with SS acorn cap nut.
After all that was done, I fired it up and WOO HOO no more leaks.......
untill I noticed a bubbling coming from between the case halves right above the oil filter cover
It took me a min to realize that somehow the middle case bolt (pictured)
had come loose and fallen out.
i had some spare bolts from another set of bad cases, used some thread sealant, and torqued it down.
It started to rain shortly thereafter so I didnt have a chance to run it and check the seepage, but hopefully that cures it.
Guess the moral of the story is recheck the torque factor on your nuts and bolts after a while, as things tend to loosen up over time.
