Taking the GS to the range

This summer, I've started to combine two of my favorite recreational activities, by packing a couple of handguns and ammo in my soft-sided range-bag, and wedging it in the Vetter trunk for the 35 or so miles to the shooting club.

What a great way to enjoy a few hours, than to ride to the range, shoot, and ride on home. Obviously, I have to leave the long guns home, but sacrifices are always something we face with bikes.

Used to look like poncho via when I was a kid and headed to the range (local dump) for a day of shooting. Had lunch and guns and ammo hung all over that Honda 90 trail bike. Course we lived in the middle of no where.

A buddy of mine made up a scabbard that he secured to the fork tube so he could take his bike when he would go dove hunting on the way home from work.

Hmmm...a scabbard to hold my Garand somewhere on my GS-S would certainly combine two of my favorite machines...but somehow, I know no good would come of it!

Years ago when I was stationed in Texas I used to sling my .50 Thompson Center Hawken muzzle loader across my back and put the powder, caps and balls in my tank bag and ride out of town to go shooting. That used to get some funny looks.

Yea, as bad as my road rage can get when I'm in my truck, having one of these on a bike would lead to certain death for some people.

Like find you in your garage clutching your carburetors and a bunch of jets and o rings, with a stator rewind around your neck and a petcock in your mouth, as you are trying to load your shotgun!!

I have thought long and hard about mounting an ATV scabbard onto one of my bikes for the Sunday ride to the Skeet range.



A buddy of mine tells about riding in inner city traffic with a Reminton 308 slung across his back on the way to a gun show / swap meet, Police did not see the humor.

My bride might occasionally dispute this, but I'm fine (or think I am, anyway). Now, when the carbs were apart, and I broke through one of the carb-bodies...there may have been a moment of insanity.

Its legal in Fl to travel on a motorcycle with a long gun across your back or otherwise on the bike. No problem.

I have had no problems here in NZ with my rifle bag slung over my shoulder, once though I had forgotten to withdraw some money from the bank before going to the range, so there I am walking up to the ATM wearing motorcycle gear and rifle across my back.
Could have been interesting if the wrong people had seen me

I have actually thought about trying to make a sheath to strap to the forks to take the Kar up to the range, but I really doubt Cali cops would dig on that too much.

Imagine the reaction if you'd have gone INTO the bank like that!!

I thought about making a saddle for my bikes, something along this line.
Could keep the cagers at bay.
