So I ran my bike down to Filer's Motorsports today to get an inspection. They basically take drive in's. Hit the service counter and this older guy, maybe in his 60's, came out and drove it in the shop. I roamed around the sales area for maybe 15 minutes or so. I saw him bring it back around front so I got my gear back on and walked outside. He gets off the bike and just goes "Nice". I told him that I looked at everything in the showroom, sat on a few, but it's just not the same. Told him when I hop on this bike, I'm 25 years old again, 165 pounds, and got a full head of hair. He just smiled.....

same with me.i got 5 bikes now(picking up an 81 gs1000g tues,so will be 6 again).newest is my 83 gs850.oldest is my 77 cb550k.when i ride them,i'm a kid again,cheap gas,friendly people on the road.a time when there were no limits to my strength or dreams.glad thats all it takes

I agree 100 per cent.
The ones that i have are all '81 or earlier.
Only difference being the last time i had a full head of hair and weighed 165 pounds i was 14.

, Totally agree, mine reminds me of 1982 when I bought mine off of the showroom floor. I was fickle then though, the next year I got a look at the CB1100F and ended up kicking the GS to the curb. Then I thought the GS was an old mans motorcycle........ Well guess what.

If your riding or driving something from the 50's, THEN you're old.
There's something about the 80's though, kind of oldschool, yet high tech.

Well as much as I agree with everyone and would rather be riding old iron, circumstances are going against me. My insurer will not cover bike that are 30 years or older. I need to stay with them as they offer the best deals. Moving to the few that do insure old bike and the cost goes up another $200/400 a year which is just not doable for me.

I'm trying to divest myself now and will be looking at something of 90's vintage I guess and there's not really that much there that appeals to me.

My insurer charges me a whopping $ 85.00 a year to insure the GS in addition to the Beemer. I love the GS, it took me getting to this age to appreciate it.
