I found it interesting that you have no recollection of the event.

The human brain seems to arrange a disconnect sometimes, and blanks out things that are too uncomfortable, but one would guess you went down very fast for that to happen.

I have had my head against the pavement a couple of times, and because of the helmet I survived, but other parts of the body were not as well protected.

You did well....now please get well, and find out what to do to come on back.

I had an old Yamaha 360 seize up once, no big deal except it unsiezed for a second when the rear was stepped out to the right, a bit of a high side action although I didn't quite fall off. I wonder if something like this may have happened? Or perhaps you might have instinctively squeezed the clutch at the wrong time when it was stepped out with the same result? A high side would explain the lapse in memory, they usually hurt.

Hello all. Its been an interesting week. I followed up with the ENT doctor on Tuesday. I had to have a plate inserted into my left cheek. It was supposed to be an outpatient procedure. However the EKG during the procedure came back with some abnormal readings. I ended up being admitted as a precaution. Its a bit sobering being told they want to keep you under observation to rule out a heart attack. Luckily it was just a false reading and my heart is fine. I saw the bike on Tuesday and the rest of the gear I was wearing. I definitely had a pretty long slide on my left side. The bike is pretty much trashed. Ill share some pics eventually.

The one thing about this experience has showed me how lucky I am to be surrounded by a wonderful family and great friends. The outpouring of concern and support has been humbling. My wife has been a saint.

I am thankful, for your family's sake too, that you are still with us. You show great wisdom in riding with ATGATT. I suppose you'll have to work a little on following mechanical clues.

I hope and pray you heal quickly, recover completely, and that all your material needs are met. Do you have enough insurance and sick/vacation time so that you and your family can get by while you're recuperating? Please let us know. Also, if I have any spare parts in my garage that you could use, you are welcome to them.

A few years ago, after my accident, this community came through for me in a big way. I received a lot of parts, some for only the cost of shipping, some were absolutely free. Mr. Nessism came over to help me straighten part of the frame. Ms. SqDancerLynn came over with her welder. I'm very appreciative of this community. Keep us informed.

Thank you for the kind offer. Luckily I have a good boss and enough time off built up at work. I am insured and we are ok financially. With twin 2 year old girls at home, this experience has forced me to face the possibility that they could have grown up without a father and that thought absolutely crushes me. I think I need to take a brake from riding for a while. I'm pretty sure my bike is totalled. I will know more in a couple of weeks when I get around to looking at the bike more closely

I have a few friends that make rounds at UC, Childrens and Good Sam, I'd have them pop in and check on ya, although I don't know what else they could really do....maybe another cranberry juice with a bendy-straw, IDK

Anyway, if the riding jones gets to be too much, you could always tag along with a few of us that do a several weekends throughout the summer months riding the trails - Redbird, The Wayne, Hat-McCoy. (Bikes are cheaper & the ground is softer)
If it's a GS jones, you could take a spin on mine, for medicinal purposes of course...

I can have it taken out if I want in a few months but its jot necessary. Thanks for the offer but I have already been discharged from UC hospital. I know ill have to get on a bike again for me to know I can still ride again after this incident but I need to take a break right now

Yes. I have no doubt at all that I am not alive today if I'm not wearing that helmet. No doubt at all.

..and a full face helmet at that. Imagine if it was only a 3/4? You most likely would have no teeth and would require surgery. Full vs 3/4 has been a big topic on a triumph site I visit. Studies show majority of impacts during a crash are left and right side chin/cheek area.

I hope you can get a police report, accident report of witnesses account, just for the future benefit of all riders, hate to see one persons trajedy being used for the benefit of others, not trying to sound disrespectful or un-feeling, but I'm glad your doing better for you and your family, just hope some good can come from all of this.

I plan on sharing as much as possible as I get it sorted out. My hope is for others to learn from my experience......especially on ATGATT. I shudder to think what may have been if I wasn't geared up. I obviously now understand the importance of a properly maintained and running bike. My shortcomings in that department lead to my get off.

Glad you are still with us and sorry for your bad luck. Hope you heal up fast.

Your comment above really struck home for me as I had an identical experience when a left turner got me in 2006. Sort of the silver lining in the dark cloud.

Here is my face.

Now there's a purdy face! I'm 5 weeks out from my crash and still hurt like hell (10 breaks on 6 ribs, torn liver and more ). Remember that crashing -- any injury for that matter messes with your head. Go slow and take it easy for a while. Best wishes for a fast recovery!
