Thought bike was going to melt!!

I was going out for a night ride last night, gassed up in Streetsville and then was riding around and heading home. The whole day I thought my oil level was low and sounded like the engine was struggling a bit so I was going to check and top it off when I got home.

Anyways, I'm 5 minutes from my house and I look down at my dash.

Wow, my bike is at 104? It's a pretty cool night, a bit frisky actually.

WHOA now I'm getting scared, it's steadily climbing. I'm trying to cruise, I'm now up in 6th gear. Lots of cool air blowing. I look down.

OMG. I am a few blocks from home now. Should I just pull over? I'm half waiting for my bike to shut off or explode. WHY DIDN'T I CHECK THE OIL EARLIER!!!!

I am cringing now, how hot until failure?? Can I make it home?? the weird thing is, I don't really hear the fan on, and my legs don't feel warm at all.

    I look down....

Wait, that's not 141 C, that's 14.1.....23$@#T# I was looking at my odometer which I just reset when I gassed up *face palm*

Shook my head in relief. Temp was at 84C. Got home and my battery died.

Funny story, thanks for sharing..I guess a dead battery didnt seem so bad, as you were anticipating full blown disaster a short time earlier...

I dunno- you have me confused- usually only a water cooled bike has a temp gauge.

              I will come clean.....

It's not my story, found it on another site, I thought it was funny, so I re-posted it here, just for laughs....

seems the OP was actually looking at his trip counter and thought it was the temp gauge, if that is even true....

I was just to get some chuckles going....

Not a serious moment at all...

Yeah I knew you couldn't make that observation on an air cooled-
have to be pretty thick to even do it on a water cooled!!!! LoL

I suppose on a new-fangled LCD dash, such a mix-up would be possible. Especially on a bike that's new to you.

Hell, it sounds like something I would do. :P
